QUALIFICATIONS
__Graduation from High School or Equivalency; __Three to five years of training or experience in repairs and maintenance of automotive equipment __Must possess and maintain a North Carolina Commercial Driver's License with proper endorsements for the weight and type of vehicles operated as required by DMV. __Must possess a North Carolina Inspection License. __Valid North Carolina Driver's License
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Identifies, diagnoses, and repairs complex malfunctions in vehicles and equipment, including checking for worn components Examines and rebuilds or replaces mechanical components Lubricates the moving parts of the vehicle chassis Checks, adds, and replaces brake and steering fluids Checks, adds, and changes engine oil Rotates, replaces, and repairs tires Tests the electrical systems Tests repaired or replaced equipment for compliance with safety standards Operates specialized power tools Performs body repairs and vehicle painting Does upholstery work and glass replacement Operates a wrecker and assists in vehicle recovery and towing May operate the Fuel Truck to fill in, as needed Performs preventive maintenance (PMs) on all assigned vehicles at every 6,000, 12,000, 24,000, and 48,000 miles Performs 30-day monthly inspections on all assigned vehicles Performs Annual Inspections as required by NCDMV Responds to roadside emergencies such as breakdowns and accidents as needed Assists and inspects Chartered Motorcoaches for schools before field trips Provide leadership training to Technician Mechanic I Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor
PHYSICAL AND COGNITIVE REQUIREMENTS
The major physical and cognitive requirements listed below are applicable to the Transportation Mechanic II job classification within Bertie County Schools. Work in this classification is considered heavy physical work requiring the occasional exertion of 100 pounds of force, frequent exertion of up to 50 pounds of force, and constant exertion of up to 20 pounds of force to move objects. Must be able to: Walk, lift, reach, stoop, stand, grasp, balance, climb, kneel, and crouch Work in various inside and outside environments, being subjected to weather changes, noise, vibrations, job hazards, and atmospheric conditions Use visual acuity required for depth perception and color perception Visually inspect small defects and/or small parts Use a variety of measuring devices Assemble or fabricate parts at or within arm's length Operate machines, motor vehicles, hand tools, and job-specific equipment and tools Determine the accuracy and thoroughness of work Observe general surroundings and activities Hear sufficiently to perceive information at normally spoken word levels accurately Use communication by means of the spoken word to express or exchange ideas Safely work in situations of exposure to blood-borne pathogens, which may require specialized personal protective equipment The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works indoors and outdoors. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The work is typically performed in the Transportation Building and shop.
