Description of Work:
The U.S. Meat Animal Research Center (USMARC) is a 34,000-acre facility located near Clay Center, NE. The work performed at USMARC supports research that is focused on solving high priority problems for the U.S. beef cattle, sheep, and swine industries. As a Mechanic II, you will: Assist fueling, cleaning, and transporting vehicles to various locations. Perform vehicle maintenance and service such as oil and filter changes, checking and adjusting fluid levels, lubricating vehicle chassis and related components, replacing belts, hoses, fuses and light bulbs, and repairing, installing, rotating, and balancing tires. Inspect and repair exhaust systems. Check and repair mechanical and electrical systems on power equipment. Perform Safety Inspections (ASE or Manufacturer certification required). Replace brake pads, shoes, & spring kits. Assist customers. Assist with fuel deliveries. Inspect and report vehicle damage, transport vehicles to various locations, remove and replace van seats, and maintain a clean vehicle prep/work area. Perform routine cleaning and general upkeep of Transportation Services offices, halls, conference room, restrooms, and locker room, including but not limited to collection and disposal of refuse, vacuuming, and mixing cleaning solutions. Periodically scrub, strip, refinish, and polish floors using a powered scrubbing machine and clean carpets using a carpet extractor. Maintain records of parts and time of work performed on repairs. Assist other mechanics and assist with more complex mechanical repairs under the supervision of a Mechanic III. This position requires work in inclement weather.

Minimum Required Qualifications:
High school or equivalent experience. 2+ years experience performing under vehicles services and repair. Proficient in automotive lubrication, cooling, suspension, and servicing basic automotive systems. Ability to handle various tools and heavy equipment. Good communication skills. Valid driver's license with ability to meet University driver eligibility requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
The following qualifications are preferred, but not required: 2+ years experience performing full-service automotive repair and services. Experience in agriculture mechanics. Self-starter, independent worker, thorough and timely with repairs.

$20.50/hr minimum
