  • At New Hampshire Electric Cooperative (NHEC), we proudly serve 86,000 members across 116 towns, making us the second-largest electric utility in the state.
With 9 district offices and a fleet of 200 vehicles and specialized equipment, reliable transportation is critical to our operations. Our dedicated team of four full-time Auto Mechanics and a Fleet Service Representative work diligently to ensure that fleet remains safe, dependable, and ready to support our crews and members every day. We're looking for a dedicated and professional individual to join our growing team! This position requires strong manual dexterity, self-motivation, and the ability to adapt to changing priorities as needed to support our Line Crews and the members we serve. Work Schedule & Responsibilities:
Our Mechanics work 10-hour days on a rotating schedule that includes both day and night shifts. Day Shift (Tuesday
  • Friday, 6:00 a.m.
  • 4:30 p.m.) Day shift responsibilities include routine maintenance and scheduled Annual Preventive Maintenance (APM) tasks. Mechanics also respond to any equipment breakdowns or operational issues that arise during the day. Night Shift (Monday, 6:00 a.m.
  • 4:30 p.m., and Tuesday
  • Thursday, 1:30 p.m.
  • midnight) The night shift supports the day shift by assisting in the garage and traveling to our district offices to perform safety inspections and routine maintenance during the evening hours.
Education:
High School diploma or equivalent required. Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification and hydraulic certification preferred.
Experience:
Mechanic III and II:
Experience with general maintenance and repairs to cars and light and heavy trucks. Has Diagnostic skills of vehicle computer systems. Mechanic III is the entry level position, starting at $34.44. Additional related experience needed for the II, $39.11 per hour.
Mechanic I:
Must have a minimum of 5 years previous dealership or fleet maintenance experience as a or equivalent education or certification required. $43.78 per hour.
Job Knowledge:
Must possess a knowledge of garage operations and vehicle maintenance; trouble shooting, tune‐ups (using diagnostic equipment), ABS air/hydraulic brake systems, welding, hydraulic systems and perform repairs off‐site. Must possess and maintain a current valid Driver's License and must meet the carrier standard for insurability. Must obtain within 30 days of hire a valid Federal Motor Carrier, Medical Examiner's Certificate. The position must hold or obtain a valid CDL Class B Drivers's License within 12 months of employment.
Abilities:
Must be able to inspect, maintain and rebuild all types of motor vehicles and associated equipment without direct supervision. Must have a state certification for inspections or the ability to obtain one within six months
Working Conditions:
Will be required when necessary to work any NHEC established or designated shift, perform duties in the operating districts, work in inclement weather or emergencies repairing or recovering disabled vehicles. Must supply own tools up through 1 1/2" (including metric sizes). Position requires lifting and carrying heavy objects. Occasional training may require overnight stays. Assistance with power restoration efforts is required of all employees. Depending on the severity and duration of power outages, employees may be required to assume duties and work hours that are outside of their normal working conditions. Such assistance may require working nights, weekends and holidays and may involve considerable extra hours. In order to meet this working condition, all employees are required to provide a personal phone number where they may be reached after hours. This number will only be used for internal purposes. 78 per hour based on the agreement with IBEW. Pay is based on non-discriminatory factors including but not limited to work experience, education, licensure requirements, proficiency and qualifications required for the role. The base pay is just one component of NHEC's total compensation package for employees.
