Mechanic Hourly rate- $21-$25 per hour Join the Western New York & Pennsylvania Railroad team as a mechanic in the Maintenance of Equipment Department. The Railroad has been serving our freight customers with pride and distinction since 2001 and we are looking for someone with a positive attitude and a desire to join our team. The main office is located in Olean, NY, the largest city in Cattaraugus County which serves as its financial, business, transportation and entertainment center.
Position Overview:
Trouble shoot, repair locomotives, and maintain heavy off-track equipment and roadway machinery. Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Ensure compliance with all railroad rules and regulations for safety, operations and the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) Troubleshoot and perform repairs to all types of equipment components including gas and diesel engines, transmissions and differentials, hydraulic pumps, motors, cylinders, valves, various workheads, booms, and electrical systems Inspect and repair locomotives Solve related work problems, make decisions, and provide instructions Understand mechanical operations of machinery Qualifications:
High School diploma or equivalent Must be 18 years of age or older Valid Driver's License Ability to pass a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical examination by obtaining a DOT Medical Examiner's Certificate Basic knowledge of hydraulic systems, electrical and electronic systems, and pneumatic systems as it pertains to the operation and maintenance of roadway machinery Preferred Qualifications Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class A Drive heavy duty service truck Technical College Degree or Certification asa Heavy Equipment Maintenance Techology Technician or equivalent experience in railroad mechanics Knowledge and understanding of applicable FRA rules and regulations pertaining to locomotive repairs Electrical knowledge a plus Working Conditions/Physical Requirements Regularly exposed to loud noise, moving mechanical parts, grease and oil smells May work outside in all weather conditions depending on job assignment Work hours may include a nonstandard workweek Frequently exposed to extreme heat from equipment Ability to bend, stoop, reach, twist, climb and work at heights up to 20 feet, access confined areas, push/pull up to 125 pounds, lift/carry 80 pounds, and horizontally move equipment up to 90 pounds Ability to stand and sit for an extended length of time and walk distances for long periods of time on uneven terrain to include railroad ballast and icy ground Ability to work in a standard maintenance environment Occasionally exposed to high voltage, risk of electrical shock The Western New York & Pennsylvania Railroad embraces diversity and equal opportunity in a serious way.
