Job Description

The Westchester County Department of Public Works and Transportation is seeking Automotive Mechanics . A successful candidate will be able to perform skilled mechanical repairs and maintenance of heavy equipment; repair hydraulic and anti-lock computerized brake systems, automotive and heavy truck suspension, and charge and repair air-conditioning systems. Incumbents are responsible for a wide variety of repairs and maintenance work on all types of automotive, diesel and heavy equipment vehicles. Responsibilities also may include carrying out a preventive maintenance program, required maintenance, and mechanical repairs on disabled equipment in the field. To qualify for the higher level of pay a candidate must possess a CDL-A and maintain a NYS Motor Vehicle Inspector Certification.
MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Possession of a high school, equivalency, or automotive trade school diploma and two years of experience where the primary responsibility of the position was performing automotive repair work.
SUBSTITUTION
Satisfactory completion of 30 credits• of post-high school education in the field of automotive repair or maintenance, or closely related field, may be substituted for one year of the above stated experience.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT
Possess and maintain a valid New York State Driver's license appropriate to the type of equipment operated, at time of appointment and duration of employ.

Depending on work assignment, must meet standards of OSHA regulation(s) 1910.132-140 - Personal Protective Equipment, and will be required to meet Federal, State and local standards with respect to health and safety. $57,655.00 - $85,765.00 per year
