Job Description

Fleet Mechanic — Heavy Truck Maintenance First in Freight Logistics is a growing, asset-based trucking company specializing in heavy infrastructure hauling — data centers, nuclear facilities, and heavy highway projects. We operate our own trucks and drivers, and as we grow, we're investing in our shop and looking for a skilled, take-charge fleet mechanic to keep our 30+ truck operation rolling. The Role We're hiring a Fleet Mechanic to lead maintenance and repair of our heavy truck fleet. You'll be the person who keeps our equipment safe, compliant, and on the road. This is a hands-on role with real ownership — you'll run the maintenance program, manage preventative schedules, and diagnose and repair whatever the fleet throws at you. As First in Freight grows, your salary grows with the company. What You'll Do
  • Perform preventative maintenance on a 30+ truck fleet (4-6 axle dump trucks)
  • Diagnose and repair diesel engines, transmissions, drivetrains, brakes, suspension, electrical systems, and air systems
  • Service and repair hydraulic systems — pumps, cylinders, valves, hoses, and fittings on dump bodies and related equipment
  • Conduct DOT inspections and maintain compliance with FMCSA standards
  • Track all maintenance activity in our fleet management system — PMs, repairs, parts, labor, downtime
  • Build and maintain a structured PM schedule that minimizes unplanned downtime
  • Manage parts inventory and coordinate with vendors for parts, tires, and outside services
  • Identify recurring issues across the fleet and recommend solutions
  • Support roadside breakdown response and field repairs when needed
  • Maintain a clean, safe, organized shop What We're Looking For
  • 5+ years experience as a diesel/heavy truck mechanic, with proven experience on 4-6 axle dump trucks
  • Strong hydraulic systems knowledge (essential — our fleet is dump trucks)
  • Experience with major engine platforms (Cummins, Detroit, PACCAR, Volvo, etc.)
  • Comfortable with electrical diagnostics, ECM/computer systems, and modern truck tech
  • DOT inspection experience and working knowledge of FMCSA compliance
  • Ability to read schematics, service manuals, and technical documentation
  • Strong record-keeping discipline — this role owns the maintenance data
  • Self-directed and organized; you don't need someone standing over you
  • Valid driver's license (CDL Class A or B preferred but not required)
  • Own basic tools (we provide specialty tools, lifts, and shop equipment) Bonus Points For
  • Air brake certification
  • ASE certifications (T-series preferred)
  • Welding and fabrication experience
  • Experience managing or running a shop
  • Experience with fleet management software (Fleetio, Samsara, Whip Around, etc.) What We Offer
  • $90,000 starting salary
  • Salary growth tied to fleet expansion — as we add trucks, you grow with us
  • Health insurance
  • Long-term career path as we build out our shop and maintenance operation
  • Real ownership of the maintenance program — your call on processes and tools
  • Clean shop environment in
