Job Title:
Mechanic / Service Technician Job Description This role combines shop and field service work to maintain and repair large power distribution rental equipment. You will perform diagnostics, preventive maintenance, and repairs on industrial diesel compressors, industrial diesel generators, and related systems such as HVAC equipment and compressed air treatment components. Approximately half of your time will be spent in the shop and half in the field, supporting customers within a defined regional radius while returning home each night. Responsibilities Perform diagnostics, maintenance, and repair on industrial diesel compressors and industrial diesel generators used in power distribution rental applications. Service and maintain additional equipment such as HVAC units and compressed air treatment components to ensure reliable operation. Carry out preventive maintenance tasks, including inspections, adjustments, and component replacements, to minimize equipment downtime. Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and control system issues using appropriate tools, test equipment, and technical documentation. Work on power distribution systems, including AC and DC circuits up to 480 V, following all safety procedures and standards. Read and interpret electrical schematics and hydraulic flow drawings to identify faults and plan effective repairs. Use diagnostic tools and systems such as CDI and Munters to evaluate equipment performance and identify problems. Document service activities, including work performed, parts used, and equipment status, in a clear and accurate manner. Coordinate shop and field service work to ensure timely response to customer needs and efficient use of time and resources. Travel within a roughly two-hour radius of the home base to perform field service calls while maintaining a professional customer-facing presence. Participate in an on-call rotation approximately one week per month to support after-hours service needs, responding promptly to service calls. Maintain and properly use personal mechanic tool sets, and operate company-provided vehicles and specialty tools safely and responsibly. Work both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions while adhering to safety policies and procedures at all times. Essential Skills At least 3 years of experience working as a mechanic or service technician. Hands-on automotive and diesel experience, including maintenance and repair of diesel engines. Experience working with electrical engines and controllers in an industrial or automotive environment. Ability to use CDI and Munters diagnostic systems or tools in the course of troubleshooting and maintenance. Knowledge of power distribution systems, including AC and DC circuits and electrical systems up to 480 V. Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and hydraulic flow drawings accurately. Proficiency in mechanical maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of compressors, generators, and related equipment. Experience performing preventive maintenance and corrective repairs on rental equipment or similar machinery. Strong electrical troubleshooting skills and the ability to work safely with energized equipment within specified voltage ranges. Capability to work independently in both shop and field environments, managing time and tasks effectively. Valid driver capability to operate a company vehicle for field service work within the designated region. Ownership of a complete mechanic tool set suitable for diesel, mechanical, and electrical maintenance work. Additional Skills & Qualifications Previous experience as a rental equipment mechanic or service technician supporting industrial equipment fleets. Familiarity with both shop-based and field-based service operations, including travel to multiple customer sites in a day. Comfort working with both mechanical and electrical systems, including basic understanding of hydraulic circuits. Strong documentation and communication skills to record service activities and interact with customers and internal teams. Ability to adapt to changing priorities and handle urgent service requests, including after-hours on-call support. Commitment to safe work practices when working with high-voltage equipment, rotating machinery, and outdoor environments. Why Work Here? You will join a company that offers a comprehensive and competitive benefits package designed to support your health, financial security, and long-term growth. Available benefits include health, dental, and vision plans, a 401(k) program, flexible spending options, tuition reimbursement, college savings programs, and an employee assistance program. Additional coverage such as short-term and long-term disability, accident, life, and travel insurance is also provided, along with length of service awards that recognize your commitment over time. The organization supports work-life balance with a generous time-off program that can include twelve to twenty-five vacation days based on years of service, five sick days, six paid holidays, two paid half-day holidays, two floating holidays, one inclusion day, and one volunteer day. Volunteer time off encourages you to give back to the community, and eligibility for benefits begins quickly, on the first of the month following 30 days of employment. Work Environment You will work in a mixed shop and field environment, spending approximately 50% of your time at the shop and 50% in the field within about a two-hour radius of the home base area, including locations such as Lancaster, Reading, Harrisburg, and York. This role is home-daily, so you return home each night after field assignments. You will work both indoors and outdoors and in all weather conditions, servicing equipment at customer sites and in the shop. Standard hours follow a first-shift schedule, with options such as 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. or 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with some flexibility. Approximately one week per month, you will participate in an on-call rotation for after-hours service, receiving additional compensation for being on call and for responding to service calls. The company provides a vehicle for field work and supplies specialty and larger tools, while you bring your own mechanic tool sets.
