Full Job Description Job Summary:
Perform maintenance and repair work on all City owned mobile equipment, excluding Fire Department equipment. Grade I mechanics have a reasonable expectation to report for overtime when requested by supervisor.
Specific Duties:
The duties of this job include, but are not limited to 1. Evaluate and diagnose all automotive problems. 2. Tune-up and overhaul motors on vehicles such as cars, trucks, motorcycles, tractor trailers, compactors, sweepers, hi-lifts, bulldozers, shovels, graders, backhoes, snowplows, lawn mowers, pumps, and miscellaneous equipment. 3. Install brakes and clutch assemblies. 4. Repair or replace parts and sub-assemblies. Replace exhaust systems. 5. Perform state inspections/emissions on all vehicles owned by the City of Erie. 6. Rebuild or repair hydraulic hoists on dump trucks. Recondition motorcycle engines. 7. Maintain program of preventive maintenance, including maintenance of machine tools. 8. Make emergency repairs in the field using heavy duty and medium wrecker as needed. 9. Evaluate and repair diesel problems, fuel injection systems and hydraulic problems on compactor packing systems. 10. Machine parts and perform other operations to repair or rebuild engines, starters, carburetors, generators, hydraulic shop equipment and shop tools. 11. Prepare parts list for necessary jobs for the Bureau Superintendent. 12. Disassemble, inspect, and clean parts; install new or machined worn parts. 13. Follow all safety regulations as specified by the City of Erie. 14. Perform other similar and related duties as required.
Qualifications:
Certified State Inspector/Emissions Class B License Air Brake documents Valid CDL B License Tools and Equipment Hydraulic jack, gauge, micrometer, specialized automotive hand, power and bench tools, crane, air sander, electrical test equipment, wrecker, truck, lathe, drill press, valve grinding equipment, drills, and tapes
