The Fleet Mechanic is responsible for maintaining and repairing Company tractors and trailers ("RT Equipment") to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation. This position performs troubleshooting, diagnostics, and repairs across multiple systems including diesel engines, transmissions, brakes, hydraulics, and electrical components. The Fleet Mechanic also completes preventative maintenance, maintains accurate service documentation in Fleetio, and supports a culture of safety, teamwork, and accountability.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform thorough diagnostic tests and repairs on diesel engines, transmissions, brakes, electrical systems, and other components to maintain fleet performance and safety.
- Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance services to identify and address potential issues before they become major problems.
- Maintain accurate records of all maintenance and repair activities, including parts usage and work performed, using computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
- Ensure that all work is performed in compliance with safety regulations and standards, including DOT and EPA requirements.
- Assist in managing inventory levels of spare parts and order replacements as needed to minimize downtime.
- Collaborate with other members of the maintenance team to share knowledge and best practices.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; trade school or technical certification in diesel mechanics preferred.
- Proven experience as a Diesel Mechanic with a focus on heavy-duty vehicles.
- Strong knowledge of diesel engines, transmissions, hydraulics and electrical systems.
- Proficiency with diagnostic tools and computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
- CDL (Commercial Driver's License) preferred but not required.
- Ability to follow all attendance and punctuality standards with adherence to timekeeping standards.
- Required to wear proper PPE including but not limited to steel-toed boots, hard hat/bump cap, safety glasses, and appropriate gloves when necessary.
- Ability to understand and follow all work rules and follow directions from leadership.
- Ability to maintain a professional appearance in accordance with company policy.
- Ability to climb ladders, stairs and equipment
- Physically capable of safely driving and operating a company vehicle.
- Ability to bend, stoop, squat, kneel, and/or crouch while performing a hand task.
- Ability to pull, push, and lift 50 pounds.
- Must be able to read, write, and speak English.
