Job Description

Heavy Equipment Lube Technician RES Coal mines metallurgical coal — the raw material for steelmaking, not the thermal coal that fuels power plants. We've grown every year since 2008 and we're opening new sites right now. We're hiring full-time Heavy Equipment Lube Technicians to support one of the largest CAT mining fleets in Pennsylvania. This is steady, year-round field work — and for the right person, it's the first rung of a real mechanic career.
IS THIS YOU?
This is our entry point into the trade. No heavy-equipment repair experience required — mechanical aptitude and reliability matter more than a long résumé. This role is a fit if: ✓ You're mechanically inclined and like working with your hands ✓ You take pride in doing preventative maintenance the right way ✓ You can work safely and independently outdoors at active mine sites ✓ You're dependable and show up on time, every day ✓ You want to grow into a mechanic role over time ✓ You have a Class B CDL with tanker endorsement, or you're willing to get one This is where good mechanics start. If you're already an experienced wrench, look at our Field Mechanic or Shop Technician postings instead.
WHY WORK HERE
Steady, year-round work supporting active mining operations A clear path into mechanic helper and full technician roles Work independently, backed by a full in-house maintenance team Company lube/service truck, tools, and cell phone provided Home every night — no overnight travel Privately owned and diversified — stable and resilient In short — lube techs are a critical part of keeping production running, and we treat the role as the start of a career, not a dead end.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Heavy Equipment Lube Technician performs scheduled preventative maintenance and fluid services on large mining equipment across multiple active mine sites, working out of a company lube truck and supporting field mechanics during major repairs and component changeouts. Your day begins at the RES preparation plant in Clearfield, with travel to active sites in Clearfield, Cambria, Centre, Blair, and Armstrong Counties. Depending on the service level, you'll work independently on routine services or as part of a two-person team on higher-level fluid work.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform Level 1-4 preventative maintenance services on mining equipment Complete scheduled oil and filter changes on major components Maintain and operate your assigned lube/service truck Assist field mechanics during major component changeouts — draining and refilling compartments, handling fluids and filters Collect, label, and submit oil samples Maintain filter and fluid inventory on the lube truck Complete service documentation and recordkeeping; steam clean equipment when required
A TYPICAL DAY
Start at the preparation plant in Clearfield Review the daily service schedule and priorities Load the truck with required filters, fluids, and supplies Travel to your assigned mine site Perform scheduled services and oil sampling Assist mechanics with fluid work as needed Restock inventory and complete service records, then return to the plant
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
Here's what good looks like to us — and what we promote on: Services are done right the first time — minimal misses or rework You keep getting better and look for ways to improve how services get done You show up on time, every day You fit the crew — you pull your weight and people work well with you You complete your scheduled services each day You plan ahead and set yourself up for the next day before heading back to the plant
PAY & EARNINGS
What you'll actually earn: $71,500-$91,520 / year $25-$32 per hour depending on experience, on our standard 50-hour week with overtime after 40 hours. Figure is before bonus. We pay weekly. Typical 50-hour weeks, day shift; occasional Saturday work as required Home daily — no overnight travel Annual performance bonus on top of base pay
BENEFITS
Coverage starts your first day — not after a 90-day wait. (Short- and long-term disability begin after a short waiting period.) Medical through Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield or UPMC — choose a high- or low-deductible plan Cover just yourself, you + spouse, you + kids, or your whole family — premiums run $55-$125 per week Dental and vision insurance Vision plan covers a new pair of prescription safety glasses every year 401(k): 3% safe harbor (we put in 3% even if you contribute nothing) plus a match up to another 3% — up to 6% total from the company Life insurance $100 annual boot allowance Minimum two weeks paid time off Tuition assistance Company cell phone, PPE, and safety equipment Fully equipped company lube/service truck
TOOLS & SUPPORT
Fully equipped lube/service truck, based at the plant Filters, fluids, and service inventory systems provided Company cell phone, PPE, and safety equipment Support from field mechanics and maintenance leadership
WHERE THIS LEADS
This is the on-ramp. The lube tech seat is how we bring people into the trade: lube technician, then mechanic helper, then full Field or Shop Technician — with pay moving up at each step. We're also building CAT training opportunities for our maintenance staff so you can keep adding skills as you go.
NICE TO HAVE
Surface mining or quarry experience Previous lube/service truck experience MSHA certification Mechanical aptitude and interest in advancing within maintenance
