Mechanical Engineer - Automotive | IndustrialWe are a multidisciplinary architecture and engineering practice dedicated to delivering thoughtful, high performance solutions for civic, commercial, educational, and public safety projects. Position OverviewWe are seeking a hands-on Mechanical Engineer with experience in automotive and industrial projects to design, develop, and deliver robust mechanical systems and components. The ideal candidate will combine strong engineering fundamentals, project engineering experience, and proficiency with design tools (including Autodesk and Revit) to support concept development through production release. This role requires collaboration across cross-functional teams, vendor coordination, and application of industry standards to meet performance, cost, and schedule targets.

Key ResponsibilitiesLead mechanical design and development of automotive and industrial components and systems from concept through production release.

Create and maintain detailed 2D and 3D models, assemblies, and manufacturing drawings using Autodesk tools and Revit as applicable.

Perform engineering analysis including tolerance stack-ups, materials selection, strength and fatigue assessments, and basic FEA or coordinate with CAE specialists.

Act as Project Engineer for assigned projects: develop schedules, track milestones, manage risks, and communicate status to stakeholders.

Collaborate with electrical, software, manufacturing, and test teams to ensure integrated system performance.

Develop and review specifications, BOMs, test plans, and validation protocols; support prototype build, testing, and root cause analysis.

Provide technical direction to suppliers and manufacturing partners; evaluate quotes and support supplier selection and component sourcing.

Ensure designs meet regulatory, safety, and industry standards and support certification efforts as required.

Support cost estimating, design for manufacturability (DFM), and production readiness reviews to enable timely, quality production launches.

Mentor junior engineers, provide technical reviews, and contribute to continuous improvement of engineering processes and documentation.

QualificationsBachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field; Masters degree preferred.

Professional Engineer (PE) license strongly preferred or the ability to obtain licensure.5+ years of mechanical engineering experience with a focus on automotive and/or industrial products; experience as a Project Engineer is highly desirable.

Proven experience with Autodesk toolset (AutoCAD, Inventor) and experience with Revit; proficiency in 3D CAD modeling and generating manufacturing drawings.

Familiarity with engineering analysis tools and methods (hand calculations, FEA, tolerance analysis) and experience interpreting test data.

Working knowledge of materials, manufacturing processes (sheet metal, welding, machining, castings, injection molding), GD&T, and DFM principles.

Strong project management skills, including schedule development, risk management, and cross-functional communication.

Experience with supplier management, component sourcing, and production support.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, problem-solving mindset, and ability to work independently and in teams.

Willingness to travel to supplier or customer sites as needed and a valid drivers license.
