Job Title:
Fleet Maintenance Transport Mechanic Job Description This role focuses on maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing a fleet of trucks and trailers to ensure they operate safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with applicable regulations. You will perform preventative and corrective maintenance, handle mechanical and electrical repairs, and complete welding and fabrication work as needed. The position requires working both indoors and outdoors and supporting a dynamic fleet operation where schedules and priorities can change. Responsibilities Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on company trucks and trailers to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation. Inspect, diagnose, and repair basic engine components and related systems. Perform electrical troubleshooting and repair lighting and other electrical systems on trucks and trailers. Change and repair tires, adjust brakes, and service other key components as needed. Carry out welding and fabrication work to repair or reinforce equipment and components. Maintain accurate, complete, and up-to-date maintenance and repair records for all serviced equipment. Follow all industrial safety standards and OSHA guidelines while performing maintenance and repair tasks. Operate company vehicles, forklifts, and other equipment in a safe and responsible manner. Support fleet and heavy equipment repair activities, including work on hydraulics, pneumatics, and engines as needed. Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues to identify root causes and implement effective repairs. Assist with general fleet maintenance tasks, including inspections and routine servicing, to minimize downtime. Work effectively within a changing schedule and adapt to evolving priorities in a busy fleet environment. Essential Skills Generally requires two or more years of experience with truck or fleet maintenance. Demonstrated experience in preventative maintenance and corrective repairs on trucks, trailers, or heavy equipment. Strong welding and fabrication skills to support equipment repair and modification. Ability to perform mechanical diagnostics and troubleshooting on engines and related systems. Experience with electrical troubleshooting and repair on vehicles, including lighting systems. Knowledge of safety regulations and industrial safety practices, including OSHA guidelines. Understanding of basic mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems. Ability to lift 50 pounds or more consistently and perform physically demanding tasks. Capability to work in various weather conditions and in both indoor and outdoor environments. Ability to safely operate company vehicles, forklifts, and related equipment. A Class A CDL is preferred and may be required for some assignments. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience in fleet maintenance, heavy equipment repair, or similar transport mechanic roles. Experience working with hydraulics, pneumatics, and engine systems in an industrial or fleet setting. Strong diagnostic skills for identifying mechanical and electrical issues quickly and accurately. Attention to detail in documentation and recordkeeping for maintenance and repairs. Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment. Welding experience is a significant plus and highly valued in this role. Why Work Here? Work Environment The role follows a typical schedule of 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with overtime included and the potential for the workday to run late as needed. The schedule is subject to change based on operational demands, so flexibility is important. Work takes place in both indoor and outdoor areas that are generally non-climate-controlled, requiring comfort working in varying temperatures and weather conditions. You will work around trucks, trailers, heavy equipment, and shop tools, including welders, lifts, and forklifts, in an industrial maintenance environment with a strong emphasis on safety and proper use of personal protective equipment.
