Job Summary:
An Automotive Service Writer serves as the primary liaison between customers and the service department. They greet customers, assess vehicle concerns, prepare repair orders, communicate repair recommendations, coordinate with technicians, and ensure a positive customer experience throughout the service process. Key Responsibilities Greet customers and discuss vehicle service and repair needs. Listen to customer concerns and accurately document symptoms and issues. Create and process repair orders and service estimates. Explain recommended repairs, maintenance services, and associated costs. Obtain customer authorization for repairs. Coordinate workflow between customers and service technicians. Monitor repair progress and provide status updates to customers. Schedule service appointments and manage shop capacity. Review completed repairs with customers and explain invoices. Handle customer questions, concerns, and complaints professionally. Promote preventive maintenance services and dealership/shop programs. Maintain accurate service records and customer information. Process payments and close repair orders when required. Required Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. Previous customer service experience. Basic knowledge of automotive systems and maintenance procedures. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment. Computer proficiency and experience with service management software. Preferred Qualifications Experience as a service writer, service advisor, or automotive technician. Knowledge of automotive repair terminology and diagnostic procedures. Sales experience and ability to recommend maintenance services. Manufacturer certifications or dealership experience. Skills Customer service excellence Communication and active listening Sales and upselling techniques Problem-solving Time management Organization and attention to detail Conflict resolution Automotive knowledge Computer and data entry skills Physical Requirements Ability to stand and walk for extended periods. Occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds. Ability to work in a repair shop environment.
