Construction Full Job Description Position Summary:
J&L Construction, LLC is seeking a dependable and experienced Mechanic to join our underground utilities construction team. The Mechanic will be responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining company vehicles, heavy equipment, trailers, and construction machinery to ensure safe and efficient operations in the field. The ideal candidate will have experience working on diesel engines, hydraulic systems, construction equipment, and fleet vehicles commonly used in underground utility construction projects.Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Perform routine maintenance and repairs on company trucks, trailers, heavy equipment, and construction machinery Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues Conduct preventative maintenance services including oil changes, brake inspections, fluid checks, and filter replacements Repair and maintain equipment such as excavators, skid steers, backhoes, trenchers, loaders, dump trucks, and service trucks Respond to field service calls and perform emergency repairs when necessary Inspect equipment to identify safety concerns and operational deficiencies Maintain accurate maintenance and repair records Order and track parts, tools, and shop inventory as needed Ensure all repairs comply with company safety standards and DOT regulations Keep shop and work areas clean, organized, and safe Work closely with field crews and management to minimize equipment downtime Assist with equipment inspections and preparation for projects Turn in daily reports into company softwareQualifications:
High school diploma or GED preferred Minimum of 3 years of mechanic experience preferred Experience working with diesel engines and heavy construction equipment required Knowledge of hydraulic, electrical, and air brake systems Ability to read diagnostic software and repair manuals Valid driver's license required; CDL preferred Welding and fabrication experience is a plus Ability to operate heavy equipment safely Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills Ability to work independently and manage priorities efficiently MUST be able to pass a background check and drug testPhysical Requirements:
Ability to lift up to 75 pounds Ability to stand, bend, kneel, climb, and work in various weather conditions Ability to work overtime, weekends, or emergency call-outs when needed Comfortable working in shop and field environmentsWork Environment:
Construction sites Equipment yard/shop Outdoor environments in varying weather conditions Exposure to noise, dust, grease, and heavy machineryBenefits May Include:
