A Mechanic is responsible for maintaining, repairing, and servicing all rolling stock used in the ready-mix concrete production and delivery process. This role requires diagnosing mechanical issues, performing routine maintenance, and ensuring the safe and efficient operation of all vehicles and related systems.Key Responsibilities:
Safety and Compliance:
Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations while performing maintenance and repairs. Ensure that all vehicles and equipment comply with local, state, and federal safety standards. Promote a safe working environment by conducting regular safety checks and training sessions.Vehicle and Equipment Maintenance:
Perform routine maintenance and repairs on all rolling stock, including mixers, trucks, and other machinery. Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical issues to ensure optimal performance. Conduct regular inspections to identify potential problems and prevent breakdowns.Repair and Service:
Perform door calls, road calls, and handle all work from air leaks to electrical to brakes and some engine work. Repair or replace defective parts, components, and systems in vehicles and related equipment. Develop and implement a preventive maintenance schedule to minimize downtime and extend the lifespan of vehicles and equipment. Utilize diagnostic tools and equipment to accurately assess and address mechanical issues. Ensure all repairs and services are completed in accordance with industry standards and safety regulations. Respond to emergency breakdowns and perform on-site repairs as needed to minimize disruption to operations.Documentation and Reporting:
Maintain accurate records of all maintenance and repair activities. Document inspections, repairs, and services performed on vehicles and equipment. Provide regular updates to management on the status and condition of the fleet.Inventory Management:
Manage inventory of spare parts, tools, and equipment required for maintenance and repairs. Order and replenish supplies as needed to ensure availability for timely repairs. Keep track of inventory levels and report any shortages or discrepancies.Team Collaboration:
Work closely with other mechanics, drivers, and plant operators to coordinate maintenance and repair activities. Provide technical support and guidance to team members as needed. Foster a collaborative and safety-oriented workplace culture.Critical Skills:
Safety-minded Communication Organizational Skills Problem-Solving Attention to Detail Technical Proficiency Knowledge of Industry Regulations Additional duties as assigned.Requirements:
Experience:
Minimum of 3 years of experience as a mechanic, preferably in the ready-mix concrete industry.Education:
High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training or certification in mechanics preferred.Licenses/Certifications:
ASE certification or equivalent preferred. Driver's license and medical card. CDL preferred.Technical Proficiency:
Proficient in using diagnostic tools and equipment.Knowledge:
Strong understanding of mechanical systems and industry regulations. Attendance is required.Working Conditions:
Primarily works in a shop setting and may be subject to outdoor weather conditions, work near mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electric shock, vibration. May be required to work outside of regular business hours, including evenings and weekends to address urgent issues. Ability to work in various environmental conditions, including exposure to loud noises, dust, fumes, and vibration. Working around mechanical moving parts. Sometimes required to make road calls, subjecting them to additional hazards away from the shop.Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Prolonged periods of standing, walking, and sitting. Manual dexterity to operate tools, vehicles, and equipment. Stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell. Ability to work in various environmental conditions, including exposure to loud noises, dust, fumes, and vibration. Working around mechanical moving parts.Accommodation Information:
