Full-Time, Bargaining Unit Position Position Summary Modern Electric Water Company is seeking a skilled Mechanic to independently manage all aspects of the Company's vehicle and equipment maintenance program. This position is responsible for diagnosing, maintaining, repairing, inspecting, fabricating, and supporting the Company's fleet vehicles, heavy equipment, and utility-related equipment utilized in electric, water, construction, and field operations. This is a single-person department requiring strong technical expertise, initiative, sound judgment, and the ability to work independently with limited supervision. The successful candidate will play a critical role in ensuring the safety, reliability, and regulatory compliance of Company vehicles and equipment. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Fleet Maintenance & Repair Diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, overhaul, and maintain diesel, hydraulic, and electrically operated vehicles and equipment. Perform preventive maintenance inspections and scheduled servicing for Company fleet vehicles, heavy equipment, trailers, generators, and utility-related equipment. Develop, implement, maintain, and update preventive maintenance schedules and service intervals for assigned equipment. Perform seasonal maintenance procedures, component and part upgrades, corrosion prevention, winterization, and equipment preservation activities. Perform and document required vehicle and equipment inspections, including FMCSA annual inspections, DOT inspections, pre-service and post-service inspections, preventive maintenance inspections, and other required fleet safety inspections. Inspect, test, repair, replace, and adjust hydraulic systems, brake systems, steering systems, suspensions, engines, electrical systems, Power Take-Off systems, pumps, and related components. Utilize diagnostic software, electronic testing equipment, and computerized vehicle systems to identify failures and determine corrective actions. Operate and test Company vehicles, heavy equipment, and utility equipment to diagnose mechanical issues, verify repairs, and evaluate equipment performance. Perform operational testing and inspections following maintenance and repairs to verify equipment functionality and readiness for service. Repair and maintain utility-specific equipment, including aerial devices, compressors, pumps, trailers, trenching equipment, and related field equipment. Perform emergency repairs as operational needs require. Fabrication & Shop Operations Perform welding, cutting, fabrication, and modification work to maintain or improve Company equipment and fleet functionality. Operate and maintain shop tools and equipment including welders, torches, lifts, presses, grinders, saws, diagnostic tools, battery testing equipment, hydraulic tools, and other mechanical equipment. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in accordance with Company policies and applicable safety regulations. Ensure proper handling, storage, and disposal of fuels, oils, chemicals, batteries, and hazardous materials in accordance with environmental and safety regulations. Program Administration & Recordkeeping Maintain complete, accurate, and organized maintenance, repair, inspection, warranty, certification, vehicle maintenance, and regulatory compliance records for all Company vehicles and equipment, including records required to support DOT and FMCSA compliance. Monitor equipment condition, maintenance trends, and replacement needs, and provide recommendations regarding fleet reliability and lifecycle planning. Coordinate and purchase parts, materials, tools, equipment, and supplies necessary for maintenance and repair activities in accordance with Company purchasing procedures. Track inventory levels and maintain adequate stock of commonly used parts and supplies. Ensure all required inspections, certifications, and regulatory compliance requirements are completed and documented. Safety & Compliance Follow and enforce applicable federal, state, local, and Company safety standards, policies, and procedures. Maintain compliance with applicable Washington State safety requirements, FMCSA and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, environmental requirements, manufacturer standards, and applicable utility industry standards. Safely operate Company vehicles and equipment. Provide backup support for snow and ice removal activities utilizing Company equipment and materials as assigned. Participate in required safety meetings, training, and certifications. Perform other related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED equivalent. Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing diesel-powered vehicles, heavy equipment, utility fleet vehicles, and mechanical systems. Demonstrated experience troubleshooting and repairing hydraulic, electrical, pneumatic, fuel, brake, steering, suspension, drivetrain, and emissions systems. Experience performing preventive maintenance inspections and repairs on medium-duty and heavy-duty trucks, construction equipment, and utility fleet equipment. Experience using computerized diagnostic equipment, scan tools, and manufacturer service information systems. Ability to perform welding, cutting, fabrication, and metal repair work. Ability to meet Company and regulatory requirements for operation of commercial motor vehicles. First Aid/CPR certification or the ability to obtain and maintain certification within twelve (12) months of hire. Required Licenses and Certifications The following licenses and certifications are required and must be maintained as a condition of employment: Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) without air brake restrictions and the ability to maintain an acceptable driving record. Qualified to perform and document FMCSA annual vehicle inspections in accordance with applicable federal regulations. Qualification as a Brake Inspector in accordance with 49 CFR §396.25 and applicable FMCSA requirements. Preferred Qualifications Experience maintaining utility fleet equipment, including bucket trucks, digger derricks, service trucks, trailers, and construction equipment. Experience performing DOT annual inspections and maintaining FMCSA compliance records. Diesel and Hydraulic Systems Certification or equivalent documented training, including International Fluid Power Society (IFPS) certification. Compensation
Hourly Rate:
