Full Job Description Rainier Asphalt & Concrete:
Fleet & Equipment Systems Mechanic - Tacoma Rainier Asphalt & Construction is seeking a highly skilled Fleet & Equipment Systems Specialist who is skilled at inspecting, diagnosing, and repairing a wide range of vehicles, trailers, and equipment related to the asphalt and paving industry. Items include dump trucks, 1-ton diesel flatbeds, various pickups and smaller gas vehicles, air brake trailers, electric brake trailers, pavers, rollers, air compressors, skid steers, hydraulic skid steer attachments, and various small engine items. The successful applicant will have experience or can-do attitude necessary for repairing and managing the aforementioned items, and in particular, a great attention to detail for record keeping.
Key Responsibilities:
Inspection and Diagnosis:
Inspects equipment to identify problems, often using computerized tools and diagnostic software.
Repair and Replacement:
Repairs or replaces defective parts using hand and power tools, and may consult service/operating manuals and wiring diagrams.
Maintenance:
Performs routine maintenance like cleaning, lubricating, and other various preventative maintenance tasks.
Testing and Adjustment:
Tests repaired equipment and makes necessary adjustments to ensure proper functionality for crew members.
Record Keeping:
Highly organized. Accurately maintains digital records of repairs, maintenance, and parts inventory.
Travel and Field Work:
Majority of work will occur either on job sites or in the equipment yard to ensure continuity for operations.
Specialized Repairs:
required from time to time. Includes but is not limited to welding, fabrication, or electronic repairs.
Safety Compliance:
Adheres to safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment.
Training:
May provide guidance and training to crew members (operators) and /or shares key information with lead technician to communicate out needs to the business.
Physical Demands:
Heavy equipment mechanics need to be able to lift up to 75lbs.
Valid Driver's License:
+ a clean driving record is required.
Bonus:
Commercial Drivers License (not required, but adds value). Experience with
Diesel/Heavy Equipment Repair:
3-5 years of experience is preferred.
Technical Skills:
A strong understanding of heavy equipment systems (engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, etc.) is preferred.
Troubleshooting Skills:
Ability to diagnose and solve mechanical problems independently or with little support from manager and/or peers. Compensation This position has a wage range from $32-$40/hour depending on experience and certifications. Education and Training:
3-5yrs of experience desired or equivalent in certifications, see below for acceptable examples:
Post-Secondary Education:
An associate's degree or certificate in equipment / heavy equipment technology.
On-the-Job Training:
5yrs minimum with reference check available upon request.
Voluntary Professional Certifications:
The National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) offers programs and certifications in various areas of heavy equipment mechanics.
Apprenticeships or Co-op Programs:
Some colleges offer programs that combine classroom learning with hands-on experience in a company. Pre-employment The applicant must submit to a background check, drug test, and driving record check.
