The Fleet Technician performs a full journey level activities in troubleshooting, altering, maintaining, and repairing City equipment to include emergency vehicles.

Diagnoses and troubleshoots vehicle and equipment problems in the shop and in the field.
Designs and fabricates equipment parts not readily available including welding fatigued or failed components, converting equipment to meet seasonal needs, adding modifications to existing equipment, and designing specialized tools and accessories. Performs routine inspections and preventive maintenance activities for City vehicles and equipment.
Prepares and maintains various records, documents, and reports.
Provides technical advice to others working in the shop and monitors shop equipment to ensure that the equipment is in safe working order.
Maintains reasonable, predictable, and regular attendance during the standard work week.
Prepares vehicles and equipment for replacement, to include removing special equipment and lettering.
Responds to service calls for emergency repair.
Assists departments in writing specifications for new equipment and vehicles; installs equipment; and makes modifications to equipment and vehicles.

About Fleet and Facilities Department:
The Fleet & Facilities Department provide a fleet of vehicles and equipment with an operation maintenance and replacement program and to supply the City with adequate, safe, economical and on-demand operational cars, trucks and specialty equipment. Services are provided through in-house labor and contracted services. The current fleet consists of approximately 193 vehicles and 134 other pieces of equipment.Why Choose the City of Tukwila?

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Performs maintenance and repairs on vehicles, equipment, and heavy equipment to include emergency vehicles (police apparatus); replaces air, hydraulic and anti-lock brakes; repairs transmissions; works on electrical systems; repairs heating and cooling systems; and repairs engines. Selects and purchases various equipment and supplies as needed and maintains inventory.Diagnoses and troubleshoots vehicle and equipment problems in the shop and in the field.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Completion of an approved vocational program andThree years of journey level mechanic experience;Or an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job. Valid Driver's License with a Class-A CDL endorsement within 6 month of hire;Employee' must furnish a full set of their own ASE and metric hand tools;First Aid and CPR certificationA Class A Commercial Driver's License is required for the position. If you do not have one, the City may assist in sending you for training.
