Job Description
Position Summary We are seeking a skilled, self-motivated Trailer & Fleet Maintenance Technician to oversee the maintenance and repair of our growing fleet. This position offers an opportunity for an experienced technician to take ownership of fleet reliability, preventative maintenance programs, repair planning, and equipment readiness across multiple locations. The position is responsible for maintaining approximately 50 trailers and 9 trucks operating between our Points, WV and Swanton, MD locations. The ideal candidate will possess strong mechanical aptitude, welding and fabrication experience, organizational skills, and the ability to work independently while maintaining accurate maintenance records. This position will initially report to the Plant Manager and transition to reporting to the Logistics/Dispatch Manager. Primary Responsibilities Inspect, diagnose, repair, and maintain dry van, flatbed, walking floor, dust, and step deck trailers. Perform brake inspections, repairs, and replacements. Service wheel ends, bearings, hubs, suspension systems, and trailer components. Troubleshoot and repair trailer lighting and electrical systems. Complete preventative maintenance, greasing, and inspections. Repair flooring, structural components, and metal damage. Perform welding and fabrication repairs as required. Perform basic preventative maintenance and service work on company trucks, including oil changes, filters, fluids, and inspections. Respond to roadside tire service calls and minor repairs within an established service area. Utilize the company service truck for field service and travel between locations. Maintain accurate maintenance records and preventative maintenance schedules. Source, order, and coordinate parts, supplies, and vendor services. Manage maintenance inventory and ensure critical replacement parts are available. Assist with budgeting and cost-conscious repair decisions. Ensure all equipment meets DOT safety standards and company expectations.
Qualifications Required:
Experience performing trailer maintenance and repair. Working knowledge of brakes, wheel ends, suspension systems, and trailer electrical systems. Ability to safely operate welding and fabrication equipment. Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills. Strong organizational and recordkeeping abilities. Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record. Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and perform physically demanding work. Preferred:
CDL Class A. Experience maintaining commercial trucks. Experience managing preventative maintenance schedules and maintenance records. Experience sourcing parts and working directly with vendors. Prior experience with dry vans, flatbeds, walking floors, dust trailers, and step decks. Own basic mechanic tools. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Experience serving as the primary maintenance technician for a commercial fleet. Desired Traits Highly organized and detail-oriented. Self-motivated and dependable. Equipment Provided Company service truck available for work-related travel and field service calls. Service truck may be authorized for take-home use when operationally necessary.
