Bike Mechanic @ HERITAGE BICYCLES

Heritage Bicycles and Coffee, Chicago's only bicycle manufacturer/coffee shop, is growing. We are hiring part or full time mechanics. Join the most interesting bike shop in the city; we manufacture our own city bikes right here in Chicago, built to order for each customer. We also are known for our quick and friendly repairs and easily accessible storefront. Position available at our flagship 2959 N Lincoln Ave location. Applicant's should be self motivated, eager to learn new tasks, and excited to work in a customer facing environment. Applicants should be comfortable checking in and performing basic repairs and assisting customers with accessory sales.

Job Description:

Proficiency with old to new bicycle components and compatibility including modern, high-end equipment (hydraulic brakes, electronic shifting). 2+ year of experience in bike shop sales/service. Work with walk in and by appointment customers to figure out what work needs to be fixed on their bike, and be able to give a reasonable timeline and stay within that timeline for repairs. Communication with the bike owner is key. Communicate clearly to bike owner the scope and cost of all services to be provided. If something unexpected occurs, communicate issue to bike owner and work with them to figure out new goal. Communicate ordering needs to senior management and make orders in a timely manner Document all work and communicate it to senior management, coworkers and shop guests Work in collaboration with the coffee shop in regards to retail and shared spaces. Be comfortable and knowledgeable to work with customers on sales of bicycles and accessories.
