POSITION
Maintenance Technician - System-wide
REPORTS TO
Maintenance Supervisor School Principal Director of Operations
QUALIFICATIONS
High school graduate or equivalent Good general health and ability to work outdoors for extended periods of time. Ability to regularly lift up to 50 pounds Skilled in knowledge of and care of various types of foliage including flowers, tress, shrubs, and grass Ability to properly operate and maintain mowers, tractors, and other equipment Building maintenance, construction, electrical or mechanical training/or experience A valid Alabama driver's license required A valid commercial driver's license may be required Complete/Active application on file Such alternatives to the above qualification as the Board of Education may find appropriate and acceptable
JOB GOAL
To provide students with safe, clean, attractive, and reasonably comfortable facilities and to protect the investment in buildings, grounds, and equipment
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist with development of plans for routine maintenance of local school facilities including pressure washing, window washing, and restroom facilities at athletic fields. Assist with landscape maintenance of local school facilities and athletic fields including grass cutting, pruning, edging, mulch / pine straw installation, pesticide application, and fertilization of grass as required. Inspire a vision for excellence for all school facilities and campuses with enhanced landscaping and curb appeal as top priorities. Assist with scheduling and implementation (driving) of "pony express" route system-wide. Extend the interoffice mail route to include food pick up and distribution with local food bank(s). Assist with safety inspections of school campuses and athletic complexes to ensure pathways, stairs, and outdoor seating and other structures are safe. Maintain garden and landscaping equipment to high standards. Consult with local extension agencies and other companies to ensure proper use of pesticides and fertilizers. Promote public relations and pride for Talladega County Schools through exemplary facilities and athletic complexes. Assist with checking and maintenance of all outdoor lighting, including athletic complexes. Assume other duties assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor and/or Director of Operations during the outdoor offseason. Assume all other duties both in the off season and during the year assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor and/or Director of Operations. Perform basic maintenance and repair operations, including plumbing, electrical, and construction repairs. Maintain a daily work log and submit to Maintenance Supervisor monthly. Report to the Maintenance Supervisor any maintenance problem requiring special assistance. Establish and maintain a file and a log on every item of mechanical equipment used in groundskeeping. Perform the required preventive maintenance inspections and keep appropriate records of actions. Assist in the development and implementation of a campus landscape and use plan. Maintain proper and professional relationships with students and other employees. Perform duties in a manner that promotes good public relations. Maintain a work area for storage and for keeping records. Comply with local, state, and federal regulations relative to maintenance regulations. Be familiar with and follow Board of Education policies. Attend training sessions as scheduled by Maintenance Supervisor. Be regular and punctual in attendance. Maintain confidentiality of any school system related business. Organize and maintain storage facilities. Perform other job-related duties that might be reasonably assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor or Director of Operations.
EVALUATION
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Board's policy.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Twelve-month contract. Salary according to appropriate current schedule.
