Maintenance Technician - Mechatronics & Robotics Apprentice Job Description This role offers a unique opportunity to develop as a Mechatronics & Robotics Apprentice within a fast-paced, highly automated distribution environment. You will learn to combine electronic, mechanical, computer, and automation engineering skills while working on complex, high-performance manufacturing and material handling systems. Under the guidance of experienced technicians, you will support the installation, maintenance, and repair of robotic and automated packaging and distribution equipment, helping to ensure high levels of safety, reliability, and equipment availability. Responsibilities Support the installation, maintenance, and repair of automated packaging and distribution equipment in a large, highly automated facility. Perform preventive and predictive maintenance on conveyance and material handling equipment using established job plans, procedures, and manuals. Conduct maintenance and basic troubleshooting of robotics and robotic work cells to maintain process efficiency and uptime. Troubleshoot electrical and mechanical issues related to material handling equipment components, including conveyors and associated systems. Maintain and troubleshoot motors, photo eyes, relays, proximity sensors, solenoids, motor starters, tachometers, and related components. Analyze, troubleshoot, and repair complex high-performance manufacturing systems to support continuous improvement and equipment reliability. Follow technical documents, work instructions, and safety regulations when carrying out maintenance and repair activities. Coordinate work with upstream and downstream operations partners to minimize disruption and maintain workflow. Collaborate closely with journeyman workers and Skilled technicians to learn best practices and develop advanced technical skills. Adhere strictly to all safety policies, procedures, and regulations while working with electrical, mechanical, and automated systems. Participate in on-the-job learning and a structured training program, including a 9-week external training with a designated provider. Meet performance expectations that are monitored through data and metrics, while maintaining high standards of quality and safety. Work flexible schedules, including weekends, nights, and holidays, as required by operational needs. Relocate after completion of the program if required by business needs. Perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting up to 49 pounds, standing and walking for shifts up to 12 hours, climbing ladders and gangways safely, and regularly bending, lifting, stretching, and reaching above the head and below the waist. Essential Skills High school diploma or equivalent education. 1+ years of experience using PC software, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. Vocational or technical training, an associate degree or above in a relevant field, or 1+ years of experience in a reliability maintenance engineering environment. Experience troubleshooting and repairing operational items in an industrial, manufacturing, or similar setting. Ability to troubleshoot and repair electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic systems. Experience with automated conveyor systems and conveyor maintenance. Knowledge of mathematics sufficient to support measurement, troubleshooting, and technical problem-solving. Ability to read and interpret measurements accurately. Ability to perform preventive maintenance on mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems. Willingness and ability to work flexible schedules, including weekends, nights, and holidays. Ability to meet the minimum qualifying score on a Mechanical Aptitude Test. Ability to enroll in and attend a 9-week training program at one of several designated training providers. Ability to relocate after completion of the program if required. Ability to lift up to 49 pounds, walk extensive distances during a shift, and perform frequent bending, lifting, stretching, and reaching. Comfort working in an environment where performance is measured through data and metrics. Additional Skills & Qualifications 4+ years of military experience, particularly in technical, mechanical, or electrical roles, is preferred. Experience conducting predictive and preventive maintenance procedures on industrial or material handling equipment. Experience troubleshooting and diagnosing material handling equipment (MHE) in a high-speed distribution or manufacturing environment. Experience implementing and adhering to safety standards and procedures in an industrial setting. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and electrical schematics. Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team-based environment. Self-motivation and a strong desire to learn new technologies, including robotics and advanced automation. Work Environment You will work in a large, high-speed distribution facility that relies heavily on automation and robotic components. The environment includes extensive conveyor systems, material handling equipment, and advanced robotics, requiring regular walking—often around 10,000 steps per day—and frequent interaction with moving machinery. The role involves physically demanding tasks such as lifting up to 49 pounds, standing and walking for up to 10-12 hours per shift, climbing ladders and gangways safely, and performing frequent bending, lifting, stretching, and reaching above and below waist level. Shifts are 10 hours in length, and all candidates must be open to working any shift, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays, as specific shift assignments cannot be guaranteed. Performance expectations are monitored through data and metrics to ensure safety, reliability, and productivity, but day-to-day work is not micromanaged. You will use standard industrial tools and equipment, work around high-speed automated systems, and operate in a setting that prioritizes safety, structure, and adherence to technical procedures. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Phoenix, AZ. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $26.84 - $26.84/hr.
