Job Title:
Facilities Technician Job Description The Facilities Technician performs preventive maintenance and repair work to keep hotel buildings and grounds in safe, functional, and presentable condition. This role combines hands-on building maintenance, basic trades work, and strong customer service to support guests, staff, and operations in a busy hospitality environment. Responsibilities Perform a wide range of preventive maintenance tasks on building systems, equipment, and fixtures to ensure reliable operation and minimize downtime. Repair and maintain fixtures and hardware such as doors, windows, minor appliances, office equipment, and other facility components as needed. Carry out basic plumbing and carpentry work, including troubleshooting and resolving routine issues in these areas. Inspect assigned areas of the property on a routine basis to identify maintenance needs and ensure the facility remains in functional and serviceable condition. Complete daily, weekly, and monthly checklists of scheduled building and equipment maintenance procedures in a timely and accurate manner. Identify and report major maintenance needs or safety concerns, and recommend appropriate corrective actions. Use tools, equipment, and materials safely and efficiently, following all applicable procedures and guidelines. Assist with HVAC, electrical, painting, and lighting-related maintenance tasks as needed to support overall facilities operations. Respond to maintenance requests and work orders promptly while maintaining a friendly, efficient, and positive customer service demeanor. Communicate effectively with team members and other departments using written, verbal, and email communication to coordinate work and report status. Demonstrate adaptability to changing customer and operational needs, adjusting priorities and tasks as required. Participate in required training and demonstrate ongoing commitment to professional growth and technical competence. Maintain clean, orderly, and safe work areas, including proper storage and care of tools and equipment. Essential Skills At least 6 months of building maintenance experience in a hospitality or residential setting such as apartment complexes or hotels. Hands-on experience and specific skills in plumbing and carpentry. General building maintenance and repair skills, including troubleshooting and resolving routine facility issues. Ability to perform maintenance and repair on fixtures and hardware such as doors, windows, minor appliances, office equipment, and similar items. Basic understanding of HVAC, electrical, painting, lighting, and facilities maintenance tasks. Strong customer service skills and prior customer-facing experience. Ability to communicate clearly and professionally in written, verbal, and email formats. Ability to lift 50+ pounds on a daily basis and perform physically demanding tasks. Demonstrated ability to use tools and equipment safely and efficiently. Ability to follow maintenance schedules, checklists, and established procedures with attention to detail. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working in hotel or multi-unit residential environments. Familiarity with preventive maintenance programs and documentation. Ability to troubleshoot basic mechanical, plumbing, and electrical issues. Strong organizational skills to manage multiple work orders and priorities. Commitment to ongoing learning and development in building maintenance and facilities operations. Comfort working both independently and as part of a facilities team. Why Work Here? Work Environment This position is based on-site at a modern hotel property in San Francisco. Facilities Technicians work a full-time schedule within a coverage window of 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM, seven days a week. Primary shifts include Friday to Tuesday from 9:30 AM to 6:00 PM, and Wednesday to Sunday from 11:00 AM to 8:30 PM, with potential shift adjustments based on hotel needs. Work takes place in guest-facing common areas, back-of-house spaces, and building support areas; technicians do not enter occupied guest rooms for this role. The environment is fast-paced and service-oriented, requiring frequent walking, standing, lifting up to 50+ pounds, and use of hand and power tools for maintenance and repair tasks. You will work around building systems such as plumbing, carpentry, HVAC, electrical, lighting, and general facility infrastructure. A neat, professional appearance appropriate for a hotel setting is expected, along with adherence to all safety procedures and property standards. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Menlo Park, CA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
