About Rutherford Ranch Winery Rutherford Ranch Winery is family-owned and managed. For three generations, our family has been committed to earth-friendly winegrowing. Sustainable viticulture is not only good for the environment; it also supports the production of high-quality fruit, an essential ingredient in crafting world-class wines. Position Summary Rutherford Ranch Winery is seeking an experienced Maintenance Technician. Under limited supervision, this position performs repairs and preventive maintenance on winery buildings, facilities, equipment, fixtures, and systems. The Maintenance Technician installs, troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains a variety of plumbing, mechanical, electrical, refrigeration, and HVAC systems while helping ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of winery equipment. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform general mechanical, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, refrigeration, HVAC, painting, and construction work associated with winery projects.
  • Conduct preventive-maintenance inspections and perform required repairs, modifications, and routine maintenance on winery buildings, facilities, equipment, fixtures, and systems.
  • Improve equipment reliability through adherence to preventive and predictive maintenance programs.
  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical equipment and facility plumbing, mechanical, and electrical systems. Work may include isolating malfunctions, disassembling equipment, and repairing or replacing components.
  • Support the maintenance and reliable operation of bottling-line, cellar, crush-pad, and related winery equipment.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, work areas, and maintenance records in a safe and orderly condition.
  • As needed, assist with landscaping, gardening, and general grounds maintenance.
  • As needed, provide basic livestock-care support for the winery's goats and alpacas, including feeding, watering, cleaning shelters and enclosures, checking gates and fencing, observing animals for signs of illness or injury, and promptly reporting concerns to the designated animal-care lead.
  • Follow all winery safety policies and procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned. Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent, supplemented by college-level or technical training in industrial maintenance, facilities maintenance, or a related field. An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.
  • At least five years of progressively responsible facilities or industrial-maintenance experience.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting bottling-line, cellar, and crush-pad operations.
  • Hands-on experience troubleshooting and repairing electrical systems appropriate to the position.
  • Experience with wastewater equipment or systems.
  • Skilled in the safe use of hand tools, power tools, testing equipment, and other trade-related equipment.
  • Ability to diagnose problems, determine appropriate solutions, and complete work safely and to a high standard.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with employees, contractors, and vendors.
  • Valid California driver's license and satisfactory driving record.
  • Comfort working safely around goats and alpacas and performing routine animal-care tasks.
  • Availability to work standard business hours, evenings, weekends, and extended hours as operational needs require. Evening, weekend, and extended-hour availability during harvest is required. Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience working in a winery production environment.
  • Previous livestock-handling or basic animal-care experience, particularly with goats or alpacas.
  • Additional technical training or certifications related to electrical, refrigeration, HVAC, plumbing, or industrial maintenance. Physical Requirements The employee must be able to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation, including the ability to:
  • Sit, stand, and walk for extended periods.
  • Frequently bend, stoop, squat, crouch, and reach.
  • Climb and safely balance on ladders.
  • Occasionally perform overhead work.
  • Occasionally lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds, including lifting from floor level.
  • Frequently perform repetitive motions associated with hand-tool and computer use.
  • Safely navigate production areas, outdoor grounds, animal enclosures, and uneven surfaces.
  • Work effectively in a fast-paced environment with deadlines, interruptions, and changes in routine.
  • Communicate professionally and maintain sound judgment under changing conditions.
  • Use close, distance, color, and peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Work Environment
  • Work is performed in winery production, facilities, maintenance, grounds, and livestock areas.
  • The position may involve exposure to noise, moving equipment, wet surfaces, dust, odors, chemicals used in winery operations, and other conditions typical of a manufacturing environment.
  • Outdoor work may involve heat, cold, sun, rain, and wind.
  • Appropriate personal protective equipment must be worn as required.
Compensation and Benefits The anticipated hourly wage is $25.00-$30.00, depending on experience and qualifications. Rutherford Ranch Winery offers a competitive benefits package to eligible employees.
