Description:
Lutheran Social Services of Southern California began in December 1944 when a group of Lutheran congregations in San Diego came together to discuss how to better assist families in need. They began discussing how to form a Welfare Commission. Their vision expanded when they came together with another group of Lutheran congregations in Los Angeles having the very same conversation. Lutheran Social Services of Southern California was officially incorporated in 1946 as a 501(c)(3) non-profit social service agency. The mission has stayed true to its earliest beginnings, to be a servant to those in need. Today LSSSC serves thousands of individuals and families throughout Southern California with over 40 different programs/services at 14 different locations. We are part of the Lutheran Services in America (LSA) network and strive to serve those in need with dignity and respect.

Position Summary:
Under the supervision and direction of the VP of Operations, this position performs a routine and extensive range of work in the repair and general maintenance of facilities, buildings, and offices. All work will be done in compliance with EPA, Hazmat, and OSHA safety rules and regulations. Lutheran Social Service of Southern California has 19 locations throughout Southern California. The ideal candidate must be comfortable driving company vehicles, traveling to various locations as needed, and conducting themselves in a professional manner.
Requirements:
Key Responsibilities:
Perform a variety of maintenance and repair work independently as instructed or assist other skilled trade personnel to maintain offices/facilities and grounds in proper condition. Perform general and preventative maintenance to various equipment, materials, and structures including but not limited to residential and commercial buildings. Tasks include carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, flooring, roofing, data cabling, appliances, moving various furniture, office cubicle install and tear down. Perform tape measure readings and communicate dimensions. Maintain grounds, facilities, and equipment, including installing and repairing metal fences, mowing, weed-eating landscape, and cleaning concrete with power equipment. Repair, assemble, install, and assist in constructing doors, partitions, furniture, wall heaters, shelving, and other items; set up for special events. Prepare surfaces for painting; apply finishes and coverings using brushes, rollers, and spray equipment as necessary. Perform routine maintenance and repairs on door locks, HVAC split system evaporator/condensers, swamp coolers, and plumbing equipment. Maintain routine records related to maintenance activities.
Knowledge of:
Methods, equipment, and materials used in maintenance and repair work. Basic shop math. Appropriate safety precautions and procedures. Basic computer skills Time management Customer service Ability to: Perform skilled maintenance work independently as instructed or assist maintenance trades personnel. Operate a variety of maintenance equipment and machines, including hand and power tools. Understand and follow oral and written directions. Lift heavy objects. Communicate effectively with others. Maintain routine records. Observe legal and defensive driving practices. Work cooperatively with others. Operate a laptop computer and its operating systems. Be able to use email to respond appropriately and in a timely manner. Attend online meetings and learn new company software as required.
Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily and have at least four years of facilities maintenance experience. Education/Experience:
High School Diploma or GED. Experience in General Maintenance/Facility Repairs/Customer Service/Asset Tracking/Building Compliance. Empathy and Boundaries Awareness. Computer literate. Ability to Multitask.
Language Ability:
Must be able to read, write, and speak fluent English. Ability to follow directions, policies, and procedures. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Math Ability:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with issues involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual will have a working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook and knowledge to maneuver a computer within different software for time management and maintenance work orders.
