POSITION OVERVIEW
Position title:

Humanizing Technology Lecturer Pool Salary range: A reasonable estimate for an appointment to teach a standard five-credit course is $9,986-$13,420 (based on salary points 5-15). Compensation for Summer Session courses may vary from courses taught during the academic year. Percent time: Variable, based on the course load assigned. Anticipated start: Appointments are contingent on the hiring unit's instructional need and the availability of funding. This recruitment is valid for initial appointments made in fall quarter 2026 through fall quarter 2027. Initial appointments with effective dates outside of this recruitment period will require an alternative open recruitment. Position duration: Appointments are typically made during one or more quarters of the regular academic year (fall, winter, and spring quarters), but they may also be made during Summer Session.

POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Humanizing Technology Certificate Program in the Humanities Division at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for an ongoing pool of lecturers who may be appointed to teach one or more courses for the divisionally sponsored certificate program. Under the direction of the Associate Dean of Humanities, the selected candidates will be appointed to teach in one or more of the following areas: humans and machines, ethics and technology, language and technology, race and technology, technologies of representation, and artificial intelligence and human imagination. Candidates should be willing to teach both large lecture courses and seminars, courses that include a large discussion component, and they must be able to deliver on-line instruction if the need arises. Applicants with expertise in linguistics, philosophy, human computer interaction, engineering, computer science, AI, critical race and ethnic studies are strongly encouraged to apply. The campus is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the inclusive excellence of the academic community through their teaching and other assigned duties. Internal candidates will be given priority consideration. The hiring unit will not sponsor employment-eligible immigration statuses for this position.

A minimum of three years' teaching experience at the college or university level.
