HMC has deep roots in the Central Valley dating back to 1887. Job description This position is primarily responsible for performing a wide variety of skilled automotive and agricultural equipment repairs and maintenance, while also helping coordinate the flow of repair projects and shop priorities across a large-scale farming operation. McClarty Farms, LLC is seeking an experienced and highly organized mechanic to support our farming operation in Selma, California. This role is critical in keeping equipment operational, assisting with the prioritization of repair and maintenance needs, and helping ensure efficient communication between field operations, management, and the shop team. The ideal candidate has strong agricultural equipment knowledge, understands the demands of growing stone fruit and table grapes, and thrives in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. This position is intended for a hands-on mechanic who can turn wrenches and complete quality repair work, while also helping guide the workflow of ongoing shop projects and jobs. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs a wide variety of agricultural equipment and vehicle repairs and maintenance, including both planned and unplanned work. Keeps equipment available for use by inspecting and testing vehicles and completing preventive maintenance such as engine tune-ups, oil changes, tire service, and routine equipment inspections. Ensures operation of equipment by diagnosing problems and completing repair and maintenance requirements in a timely manner. Coordinates daily with the Management Team and field operations to help assess and prioritize repair and maintenance needs. Serves as a liaison between field operations and the shop team to help keep work moving efficiently and minimize operational downtime. Assists in developing and managing workflows for equipment repairs, preventive maintenance, and urgent in-season fixes. Helps organize, prioritize, and track shop work so that projects and repair jobs move through the shop in an efficient and practical order. Maintains communication with other departments, management, and employees regarding equipment status, repair timelines, and operational needs. Compiles vehicle and equipment records by recording service and repairs. Assists in maintaining parts and supplies inventory by reporting low supply levels and identifying materials needed for upcoming repairs. Identifies recurring mechanical issues and recommends long-term repair or replacement solutions. Uses a variety of hand and power tools and may operate grinders, presses, welding equipment, tractors, forklifts, and related shop equipment. Moves and hauls equipment as needed; must have a valid driver license. Maintains a clean, safe, and organized work area. Follows all required safety practices, including lockout-tagout procedures, proper use of PPE, and safe equipment operation. Demonstrates a continuous improvement mindset and helps identify opportunities to improve shop efficiency and workflow. Flexible in performing other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Three or more years of experience in agricultural equipment repair or similar mechanic role. Strong working knowledge of farming equipment including tractors, sprayers, implements, trucks, and related equipment. Experience with permanent plantings, especially stone fruit and/or table grapes, preferred. Ability to diagnose problems, perform repairs, and work independently with limited supervision. Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills. Ability to prioritize tasks in a high-demand, time-sensitive environment. Ability to coordinate effectively with field personnel, supervisors, and management. Must have a valid driver license Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Frequently required to stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl. Regular use of hands and arms to operate tools, equipment, and machinery including welding and shop equipment. Ability to work in tight spaces and shop environments. Ability to lift and/or move up to 75 lbs. Ability to work overhead for extended periods. Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather and farm conditions. This job requires working Monday - Friday with occasional Saturdays. Depending on the time of year, the shift is generally from 6/7 am to approximately 2 to 4 pm.
