Maintenance/Technician
- Operations Specialist I/II I

POSITION
This position will primarily focus on maintenance activities for an 81-MGD conventional surface water treatment plant and its related distribution facilities. The role also includes participation on theHAZWOPER
team and the use of self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA).ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed.- Perform skilled duties related to the troubleshooting, maintenance, repair, and testing of instrumentation, PLC's, communications equipment, electrical and electronic components associated with the Authority's water treatment and distribution system.
- Perform highly skilled testing, maintenance, and repair on controller, power switching gears, and distribution systems, lighting circuits, single and multi-phase power and control circuits, alarm circuits, and laboratory equipment.
- Perform preventative maintenance using current technology including software-based diagnostic systems; perform troubleshooting, installation, maintenance and calibration of process and analytical instrumentation.
- Install and mount systems related to electrical and electronic components, instrumentation control, telemetry, telecommunications, hydraulics, pneumatics, and a variety of other systems; inspect installed systems to assure proper operation.
- Perform maintenance on pumps, motors, and other rotational equipment associated with the Authority's treatment and distribution system equipment.
- Ensure the effective and efficient operation of electrical, electronic, SCADA and related instrumentation as it relates to the Authority's water treatment and distribution facilities.
- Inspect new construction for compliance with Authority standards and specifications; report issues or concerns as required.
- Coordinate with vendors to resolve issues with instrumentation, electrical and electronic components; plan, coordinate and monitor special projects with outside contractors.
- Operate equipment in a safe and efficient manner in a variety of hazardous environments.
- Maintain accurate historical records, files, and data; maintain records.
- Provide training in the operation and maintenance of SCADA equipment.
- May perform the more routine tasks associated with the operation of the Authority's treatment plant.
- Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, other Authority employees and the public using principles of good customer service.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
Operations Specialist I Experience:
One year of related work experience in the water treatment and distribution industry preferred.Education:
High School diploma or GED; AND electrical, electronics or computer science certificate from an accredited community college or trade school.License and Certificate:
Possession of a valid California driver's license. Possession of a Water Treatment Operator Grade 1 within 12 months of hire and Water Distribution Grade 2 within the State of California within 12 months of hire. A validHAZWOPER
certification within 12 months of hire.Operations Specialist II Experience:
Three years of experience comparable to an Operations Specialist I with the Water Facilities Authority.Education:
High School diploma or GED; AND electrical, electronics or computer science certificate from an accredited community college or trade schoolLicense and Certificate:
Possession of a valid California driver's license. Possession of a Water Treatment Operator Grade 2 and Water Distribution Grade 2 within the State of California. A validHAZWOPER
certification within 12 months of hire.WORKING CONDITIONS
Environmental Conditions:
Work is normally performed in a plant environment subject to noise created by machinery. Conditions include shift, on-call, and weekend work.Physical Conditions:
Essential functions require maintaining physical condition necessary to sit while studying or preparing reports; bend, squat, climb, kneel and twist when performing repair of equipment; perform simple and power grasping, pushing, pulling, and fine manipulation; and lift or carry weight of 50 pounds or less. Duties require incumbents to wear protective clothing/equipment including respirator and Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA).Mental Conditions:
Essential functions require maintaining mental condition necessary to analyze budget and technical reports; interpret and evaluate staff reports and related documents; know and interpret laws, regulations and codes; observe performance and evaluate staff; problem solve department related issues; remember various personnel rules; explain and interpret policy; handle conflict.RESUMES WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED IN LIEU OF COMPLETED APPLICATION.
