$46.52 - $61.30 per hour Job Summary The Metropolitan Water District is seeking an experienced Operations & Maintenance Technician IV - Mechanical to support water treatment operations. In this journey-level role, you will install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair complex mechanical systems that are critical to water treatment, conveyance, and distribution infrastructure. This position plays a key role in ensuring reliable water delivery by maintaining treatment plant equipment and improving system performance. Key Responsibilities Install, maintain, and repair mechanical systems across water treatment and utility facilities Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on equipment Inspect and monitor systems to ensure operational reliability and safety Diagnose mechanical issues and perform repairs using tools, equipment, and diagnostic testing Maintain and repair equipment such as: Pumps, valves, compressors, piping systems Chemical feed systems, ozone generators, and mixers Sedimentation basins, filter beds, and sludge systems Operate and adjust valves and treatment systems to support water flow and processing Perform welding, fabrication, and machining as needed Operate heavy equipment (e.g., loaders, cranes, hoists) safely Use computerized systems for work orders, reporting, and maintenance tracking Follow all safety protocols, including PPE and hazardous material handling Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED 6+ years of mechanical maintenance experience in: Water treatment plants, pump plants, or similar industrial environments OR Completion of a recognized mechanical trade program with journey-level skills Experience working with large mechanical systems (pumps, motors, generators, etc.) Licenses & Certifications Valid driver's license (required) Ability to obtain or maintain certifications such as: Commercial driver's license (Class A/B) Welding certification Crane/forklift/manlift operation Water distribution or related certifications Work Schedule 4/10 schedule (Monday-Thursday) Typical hours: 6:00 AM - 4:30 PM Benefits Competitive hourly pay Medical, dental, and vision coverage Retirement plans (pension + 401k/457 options) Tuition reimbursement Training and career advancement opportunities Stable work environment supporting critical infrastructure About the Company The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California provides water to approximately 19 million people across six counties, supporting sustainability, conservation, and infrastructure development throughout the region.
