Performs a variety of skilled and semiskilled tasks in various maintenance, repair and construction work Repairs and maintains signage, asphalt, gravel roads, pavement markings, concrete and drainage facilities, bridges, public facilities and fences Operates heavy equipment to perform snow plowing and removal Operates and performs preventive maintenance on sweepers, light duty trucks, heavy duty trucks with trailer and snow removal attachments, loaders, backhoes rollers, crack seal machine and distributor Performs daily pre-trip inspections of all equipment used Performs tree and shrub trimming Performs maintenance and cleaning of public works building and grounds Shares pager duty on a rotating schedule Responds to and performs after-hours calls for service and emergency repair Performs other duties as assigned or requiredMinimum Qualifications:
An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.Street Maintenance Technician I:
Generally, a High School diploma or GED equivalent; and zero to two years of general public works maintenance or construction work experience, or any equivalent combination. CDOT Flagger Certification, or ability to obtain within the first 6 months of employment. A valid Colorado Driver's license. And must obtain a Class B CDL (Class A preferred) within six (6) months of employment.Street Maintenance Technician II:
Generally, a High School diploma or GED equivalent; and between two (2) and three (3) years of general public works maintenance or construction work experience, or any equivalent combination. CDOT Flagger Certification, or ability to obtain within the first 6 months of employment. Must successfully complete Traffic Control Technician course within the first year of employment. A valid Colorado CDL class B. (Class A Preferred). Any equivalent combination of education, experience and/or training will be considered.Street Maintenance Technician III:
Generally, a High School diploma or GED equivalent; and three (3) to four (4) years of general public works maintenance or construction work experience, or any equivalent combination. CDOT Flagger Certification, or ability to obtain within the first 6 months of employment. Must successfully complete Traffic Control Technician course within the first year of employment. Must have a valid Colorado CDL class A with tanker endorsement and no air brake restriction. Any equivalent combination of education, experience and/or training will be considered.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to physically access all work sites to perform duties, potentially in any weather and environmental conditions. Ability to effectively use a large number of hand tools and hand held powered equipment. Ability to pass DOT physical examination in order to obtain Commercial Driver's License Ability to convey information in written, verbal, and electronic form. Ability to follow written and oral directions. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with other agencies, employees and the public. Mechanical aptitude; knowledge of mechanical devices used; ability to perform a variety of semi-skilled and some skilled tasks in repair and maintenance of various types of equipment and structures to operate trucks and equipment safely. Some knowledge of the materials, equipment, tools and techniques of maintenance and construction. Ability to respond to on-call phone on regularly scheduled on-call shift, and respond on site within one hour. Requires the ability to maintain 24/7 availability to respond to emergency calls for the duration of the scheduled on-call shift. Ability to become familiar with geography and locations of all different developments within the town limits.Physical Demands:
Moderate to heavy physical work to include lifting 75lbs or less, carrying 75 lbs or less, and pushing and/or pulling 50lbs or less Ability to physically access all work sites to perform duties, potentially in any weather and environmental conditions Frequent performance of activities requiring a full range of body movement including climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling/bending, crouching, crawling, and/or twisting Frequent hand/eye coordination to operate tools and electrical equipment as well as for driving equipment and vehicles Vision for reading, recording and interpreting information Speech communication and hearing to maintain communication with employees and citizensWork Environment:
Works primarily outdoors with exposure to all weather conditions Regular exposure to dust, noise, and chemicalsEquipment Used:
Heavy equipment common to construction and maintenance Operates vehicles such as dump truck, tractors and/or forklift This position may require the occasional use of personal equipment (e.g. vehicle, cell phone, tools, etc.) in the course of their employment Must satisfactorily complete a driving record check and criminal background check prior to commencing employment.
