About the Role The Senior Maintenance Technician plays a critical role in supporting facility operations by ensuring the efficient and safe functioning of all plant equipment and infrastructure. This position provides hands-on technical expertise, mentoring of maintenance technicians, and support to the Maintenance Manager with the execution of preventative maintenance programs, equipment installations, troubleshooting, and repair work. Core Responsibilities Senior Maintenance Technicians are responsible for the oversight of technical operations and team mentorship. These duties apply across both day and evening shifts:
Inventory & Parts Management:
Ensure the parts area is clean, organized, and inventoried. Put away incoming parts in designated locations and report needed items to the Maintenance Clerk. Log needed/used parts on work orders.
Operational Oversight:
Inspect production equipment, coolers, and freezers to ensure they are operating properly and within required parameters.
Technical Excellence:
Complete all assigned preventative and corrective maintenance tasks in a timely manner.
Facility Integrity:
Regularly inspect the facility for damage to machinery, walls, drains, or other equipment and report all findings to the Maintenance Manager.
Production Support:
Assist with issues across facilities to ensure production goals are met and maintain a state of "audit readiness".
Team Leadership:
Mentor technicians, ensure they have necessary materials and time to complete tasks, and provide coverage for their breaks and lunches.
Training:
Ensure that operators and technicians are properly trained in their required job areas and follow safety protocols.
Communication:
Maintain active communication via Slack, ensuring prompt responses to all maintenance messages and document work performed for CMMS work order system.
Shift-Specific Duties Day Shift Focus Handover:
Communicate effectively with evening shift members regarding any issues that occurred during the day.
Reporting:
Provide a daily report of all issues in the "mechanics-only" Slack channel at the end of the shift.
Machine Availability:
Report any machine that will not be available for production daily, including the expected time/day for correction.
Evening Shift Focus Shift Transition:
Communicate with the day shift senior technician regarding issues that occurred during the shift.
Operational Continuity:
Monitor production equipment integrity throughout the shift to ensure it remains operational for the next production run.
Requirements & Qualifications Experience:
Minimum 5 years' experience in maintenance within a manufacturing environment (food manufacturing preferred). T echnical
Knowledge:
Strong working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
Software Skills:
Experience using a CMMS (Asset Essentials or similar) and proficiency in Google Suite.
Communication:
Ability to read and understand operating manuals, blueprints, and technical drawings. Bilingual English/Spanish speaking preferred.
Regulatory Standards:
Familiarity with SQF, HACCP, OSHA, and FDA regulatory environments.
Safety Standards:
Familiarity with electrical safety standards and Complex lock out tag out (LOTO). Certifications- CPR/First Aid preferred, Machine Lubrication I (MLI) or Equivalent Desired, Certified Maintenance Reliability Technician (CMRT) optional. Physical Demands Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Ability to climb ladders and equipment. Capacity to stand for the majority of a shift in a production environment that may be wet and subject to varying temperatures.
