Summary:
The Senior Maintenance Technician is a highly skilled frontline leader responsible for advanced maintenance and repair of equipment and systems within a poultry processing plant. This role ensures reliable operation of machinery across all departments—including sizing (cut-up), battering, frying, freezing, packaging, and shipping—by leading troubleshooting efforts, performing complex repairs, and supporting preventive maintenance programs. The Senior Maintenance Technician reports directly to the Maintenance Manager and provides guidance to junior technicians while ensuring compliance with safety and operational standards.
Essential Duties:
  • Perform advanced troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and refrigeration/freezer systems
  • Maintain and repair equipment used in sizing, battering, frying, freezing, packaging, and shipping operations
  • Respond to equipment failures during production and perform complex repairs to minimize downtime
  • Diagnose recurring equipment issues and implement long-term corrective actions to improve reliability
  • Conduct and oversee preventive maintenance tasks, ensuring timely and accurate completion
  • Use diagnostic tools to identify and resolve equipment problems
  • Support troubleshooting of refrigeration/freezer systems (e.g., spiral or blast freezers)
  • Assist with packaging equipment maintenance, including bagging, sealing, labeling, and conveying systems
  • Provide guidance and technical support to Maintenance Technicians
  • Collaborate with production and Maintenance Manager to improve equipment performance and reduce downtime
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards including LOTO, GMPs, and HACCP
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, including repairs, parts usage, and work orders
  • Support major repairs, installations, and continuous improvement projects

Maintenance Manager Qualifications:
  • Minimum 5 years of maintenance experience in manufacturing or food processing (poultry preferred)
  • Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills
  • Experience with conveyors, fryers, cutting equipment, refrigeration/freezers, and packaging systems
  • Basic PLC knowledge preferred
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced production environment following safety procedures
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or GED; technical training or certification preferred
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and refrigeration systems
  • Ability to read manuals, schematics, and work orders
  • Ability to work in cold, wet, noisy, and hot environments with exposure to poultry processing conditions
  • Physical ability to stand, climb, and lift up to 50 lbs
  • Knowledge of safety and food safety standards (LOTO, GMPs, HACCP)
  • Ability to work independently and support training of other technicians

    Risk of cuts or punctures from sharp objects and burns from hot oil in frying/RTC areas
      Eyes/Face :
      Exposure to chemical splashes, flour dust, hot oil, and impact hazards (flying debris such as chips, sand, or dirt); potential exposure to UV light (welding/cutting), hot sparks (grinding), and molten metal during fabrication or repair work
        Ears:
        Exposure to high noise levels (>85 dBA, 8-hour TWA); hearing protection required
          Feet:
          Risk of slips and falls on wet or slippery surfaces throughout production and maintenance areas
            Body:
            Responsibility for maintaining food safety, sanitation, and product quality during maintenance activities
