Woodstock, GA Job Details Full-time From $21.01 an hour 1 day ago Benefits Disability insurance Dental insurance Paid time off Pension plan Vision insurance Gym membership Life insurance Qualifications Driver's License Full Job Description Performs a variety of semi-skilled maintenance work; operates a variety of equipment in the construction, operation, repair, maintenance, and replacement of City water and sewer systems including pump stations; assists with special projects at Wastewater Treatment Plant; and performs electrical work and repairs for the City.
Job Responsibilities:
Determines the locations of drainage structures from the appropriate sources prior to excavation. Drives trucks of various sizes and weights in the loading, hauling, and unloading of various equipment, gravel, and sand. Contacts residents and business owners in area where services will be discontinued and explains when services will be shut off and how soon it will be turned back on. Cuts, fits, lays, repairs, taps, cleans, and flushes water mains, pipes, gates, and fittings on repair of services and installation of services, fire hydrants, and drinking fountains; assists in shutting off broken sections of water mains. Performs required labor involved in construction and maintenance projects as part of a crew, including manhole and line cleaning, main and pipe repair, laying, and backfilling. Inspects and/or repairs chlorine machine, booster pumping stations, reservoir, meters, and sewer system at frequent intervals to insure that all aspects of the systems are functioning properly. Performs related electrical work. Reads meters; repairs leaks; replaces meters; and sets meters. Operates a variety of power construction and maintenance equipment used in the water, sewer and street department. Assures the proper maintenance of equipment and tools by cleaning and checking equipment and tools after use. Services water supply, sewer lift and other pumps. Performs routine inspection and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and refers defects or needed repairs to supervisor. Maintains a variety of records relating to inspection, maintenance activity, water supply, consumption, etc. Responds to complaints regarding water leaks, pressure loss or no water; evaluates situation; and explains findings to supervisor. Performs all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards. Performs other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
Requires a High School diploma or equivalent; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience relating to construction, maintenance, or repair of water and sewer systems is preferred.
Licenses or Certifications:
Requires a valid State of Georgia driver's license.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Skill in operating related tools and equipment. Skill in communicating, both verbally and in writing. Ability to follow safety rules and guidelines. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments, and the public. Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.
Physical Demands:
The work is heavy work and requires exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required: balancing, climbing, crawling, crouching, feeling, manual dexterity, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity, and walking.
Work Environment:
Work is frequently performed outdoors under various weather conditions: frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; normally near moving mechanical parts and heavy equipment; occasionally in high, precarious places; occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals; occasionally exposed to fumes, airborne particles, and vibrations; frequently works in confined spaces; and occasionally exposed to the risk of electrical shock . The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Requires working after hours; on weekends; and in the event of an emergency.

Starting Base Pay Rate:
