Maintenance Mechanic Job Description This role focuses on performing scheduled and reactive maintenance on industrial production equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation. You will apply your extensive mechanical and electrical expertise to diagnose, repair, rebuild, and improve a wide range of machinery while following established procedures and company standards. The position requires a hands-on professional who can work semi-independently, support production line changeovers, and provide guidance to less experienced technicians. Responsibilities + Perform scheduled preventive maintenance and corrective repairs on production equipment to minimize downtime and extend equipment life. + Respond to equipment breakdowns, quickly diagnose root causes, and implement effective mechanical and electrical repairs. + Assist with the setup and changeover of production lines as needed to support changing production requirements. + Fabricate required machine parts and metal components to support repairs, upgrades, and equipment modifications. + Assemble machinery and equipment, ensuring all components are installed correctly and safely. + Read and interpret blueprints, mechanical drawings, machine prints, parts manuals, and schematics to perform maintenance and repairs. + Mechanically repair conveyors, screw machines, presses, cold headers, threaders, and other industrial equipment. + Perform mechanical maintenance tasks including alignment, replacement of wear parts, lubrication, and adjustment of machine components. + Carry out electrical maintenance and troubleshooting on motors, drives, pumps, relays, sensors, contacts, and related components. + Diagnose and repair electrical systems operating at 110V
AC, 240V AC, 480V
AC, and 24V DC, using schematics where available and troubleshooting effectively without them when necessary. + Troubleshoot and repair PLC -controlled equipment and associated control circuits as needed. + Maintain and repair hydraulic and pneumatic systems, including diagnostics, repair, and installation of components. + Perform welding and fabrication work to repair, reinforce, or adjust equipment and structures as required. + Follow established maintenance practices and procedures, and ensure work complies with safety and quality standards. + Install new equipment or components, verifying proper operation and integration with existing systems. + Document maintenance activities as required, including repairs performed, parts used, and recommendations for future work. + Coach and mentor junior maintenance technicians, sharing knowledge and demonstrating best practices in mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic maintenance. + Promote a sense of ownership within the maintenance team by proactively identifying improvement opportunities and taking responsibility for equipment performance. + Act as a standalone contributor when necessary, managing tasks independently and making sound decisions in real time. + Collaborate with production and other departments to minimize disruptions and support continuous improvement of equipment reliability. Essential Skills + 15+ years of experience in industrial maintenance with demonstrated, stable tenure. + Extensive mechanical diagnostic, troubleshooting, repair, and rebuilding experience with industrial manufacturing equipment. + Proficiency using machine prints, blueprints, and parts manuals for maintenance and repair purposes. + Strong electrical diagnostic and repair skills, including work with 110V
AC, 240V AC, 480V
AC, and 24V DC systems. + Hands-on experience troubleshooting and repairing motors, drives, pumps, relays, sensors, contacts, and related electrical components. + Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics for diagnostic purposes, and to troubleshoot effectively without schematics when required. + Proven experience with hydraulic systems, including diagnostics, repair, and installation. + Proven experience with pneumatic systems, including diagnostics, repair, and installation. + Mechanical maintenance experience with conveyors, screw machines, presses, cold headers, threaders, and similar industrial equipment. + Demonstrated skill in preventive maintenance, including inspection, adjustment, and replacement of mechanical components. + Experience performing electrical maintenance and troubleshooting in an industrial environment. + Ability to follow established maintenance practices and procedures and to apply company policies consistently. + Strong troubleshooting skills across mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems. + Ability to coach and train junior technicians on maintenance techniques and safe work practices. + Demonstrated sense of ownership and accountability for maintenance outcomes and equipment performance. + Capability to work independently as a standalone contributor when required, while also collaborating effectively with a team. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Welding and fabrication experience for repair, adjustment, and modification of equipment and metal components. + Experience with PLC troubleshooting and resolving control-related equipment issues. + Background in industrial maintenance within a manufacturing or production environment. + Comfort working with both mechanical and electrical schematics, blueprints, and detailed technical documentation. + Ability to install new equipment and systems and ensure proper integration with existing processes. + Strong communication skills to effectively explain issues, solutions, and maintenance practices to peers and junior technicians. + Demonstrated ability to teach maintenance practices and encourage adherence to standard procedures. + Adaptability to work on semi-routine assignments while recognizing when deviations from standard practices are necessary.
