Maintenance Technician I

M-F Summary:
Performs the preventive and reactive maintenance duties required for the manufacturing operations of the plant. Priorities of the Maintenance Technician I include the execution of PM schedules, repair of any equipment that is needed to maintain maximum production rates and maintenance of an adequate spare parts inventory. This position requires the flexibility to work 40+ hours per week on a shift, weekends as required and fulfill on-call duties for repairs and assistance. Candidate must have own hand tools. Food experience is not required but preferred— provides GMP/Alchemy training. Candidates should have industrial maintenance experience , ideally 4+ years. Must have experience with packaging equipment (palletizers, fillers, case erectors, conveyors). Selected candidate will need to work 1st shift for 2-3 weeks for training before moving to 2nd shift
Job Summary:
Performs the preventive and reactive maintenance duties required for the manufacturing operations of the plant. Priorities of the Maintenance Technician I include the execution of PM schedules, repair of any equipment that is needed to maintain maximum production rates and maintenance of an adequate spare parts inventory. This position requires the flexibility to work 40+ hours per week on a shift, weekends as required and fulfill on-call duties for repairs and assistance. Primary Job Responsibilities (Essential Functions): Use tools ranging from common hand and power tools, such as hammers, hoists, saws, drills, and wrenches, to precision measuring instruments and electrical and electronic testing devices. Troubleshoot and perform repairs on machines and their controls (blenders, scales, bottle rinsers/fillers/cappers/labelers, check weighers, case erectors, case sealers, palletizers, stretch wrappers, DC /AC motor & drives etc.…). Maintain and develop job skills through internal and external training programs. Contact, specify, and order replacement parts & control components from suppliers through Parts Clerk. Effectively contribute to CMMS performance through timely PM & Repair Work Order completion while ensuring compliance to safety and quality requirements. 1st responder to troubleshooting machine problems, contact Electrical & Controls Technicians if additional support is needed. Work with production staff to ensure the safe and reliable operation of plant equipment. Able to self-train and operate production equipment. Mentor and provide technical guidance and training to team members including maintenance trainees & operators. Help develop and implement Continuous Improvement projects to improve production efficiencies and Safety. Support Daily Management directives and initiatives. Conduct equipment inspections to identify and analyze corrective and preventive maintenance. Ability to work various shifts, including overtime, weekends, and holidays. Perform other duties as assigned. Job Skills (Experience): Experience using Electrical Test equipment: Voltmeter, Ammeter, ohm meter, Megger & etc.… Understanding basic machine function and Sequence of Operations of production machinery. Experience in reading Electrical, pneumatics and mechanical drawings. Basic knowledge of NEC. Basic knowledge of UL508A and NFPA 79 codes preferred. Lock Out Tag Out Safety procedures. Arc Flash and PPE Requirements. General industrial mechanical, electrical, plumbing and pneumatic skills including troubleshooting. Strong ability with time management and task prioritization skills. Demonstrated knowledge of electrical formulas and mechanical math. Knowledge of 3 Phase Industrial wiring and power distribution. AC & DC Drive / Motor PMs, wiring & troubleshooting required. Parameter setup preferred. Troubleshoot PLC I/O and networking. Motion Training with Servo Drives and Motors. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with and communicate effectively with other plant personnel as well as company resources, vendors and diverse teams. Working knowledge/skill using Microsoft Office, Excel, and Word. Working knowledge/skill using CMMS such as SAP preferred. Demonstrated knowledge/skill in Root Cause Analysis, Problem identification and troubleshooting. Excellent safety record, attendance, and punctuality.
Decision Making/Problem Solving:
Process improvement implementation, work with experienced team members, maintenance lead, operations and engineering to improve equipment reliability. Report/correct unsafe conditions in the building or with the equipment. Implement safety improvement projects. Own the equipment in their areas and be a mentor to others.
Educational Requirements:
High School / Vocational School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Required Technician level formal schooling
  • Electrical, hydraulics, pneumatic
  • Preferred Basic PLC and Drive training
  • Preferred Preferred Experience (Years): 4+
Preferred Experience Type:
Industrial Maintenance experience required. Advanced knowledge of
GMP/HACCP.
Experience in food processing and packaging equipment and processes. Dry powder filling experience preferred. Strong mechanical aptitude. Excellent communication skills. Ability to work independently and as a team. English required (read and write). Spanish as a second language (preferred). Must have own hand tools. Skilled in operating Powered Industrial Trucks (PIT).
