Job Description

About Macon Foods Macon Foods is a specialty bakery manufacturer in Decatur, IL producing better-for-you cookies and baked goods for national retailers including Whole Foods, Target, Sprouts, and Harris Teeter. We're growing fast — our Decatur production facility is the engine behind that growth, and we need sharp, reliable technical talent to keep it running at its best. Our team values precision, ownership, and doing things right the first time. If that sounds like you, read on. The Role The Maintenance Technician owns our preventive maintenance program and keeps our production equipment running reliably, safely, and in GMP compliance. This is a hands-on, high-ownership role — you'll troubleshoot, repair, and improve our equipment, work directly with production and leadership, and play a critical part in our facility's uptime and product quality. As we scale, this role will be central to launching new equipment and building out a best-in-class PM program from the ground up. That means real influence over how we operate. What you'll do Lead, schedule, and execute the preventive maintenance program for all production and packaging equipment Troubleshoot and repair mechanical and electrical issues on production machinery — independently and with limited supervision Support installation, qualification, and startup of new automation and production equipment Ensure all equipment and components are ready ahead of scheduled production runs Maintain accurate PM documentation and work orders in accordance with SOPs and cGMP requirements Coordinate with equipment manufacturers and external technicians as needed Train production staff on equipment setup, changeover, and basic troubleshooting Perform general upkeep of all production equipment and support a clean, organized facility Follow all company safety policies and food safety regulations at all times What we're looking for 1+ year of hands-on experience in automation, industrial maintenance, or mechanical/electrical repair in a manufacturing environment (food manufacturing a strong plus) Ability to troubleshoot and independently support 3-5 production machines Familiarity with cGMP standards and food safety requirements preferred Mechanical and electrical aptitude — you can diagnose a problem and fix it, not just report it Strong organizational skills — you can run a PM calendar and keep documentation current Reliable, safety-conscious, and composed under pressure High school diploma or GED required; technical training or trade certification a plus Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred
