Multi-Craft Maintenance Technician _ Direct Placement - All Shifts Available Job Description This role provides comprehensive mechanical and electrical maintenance support across the entire facility, ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient operation of production equipment. You will perform preventive and corrective maintenance, troubleshoot complex issues, and support continuous improvement by upgrading and retrofitting both legacy and modern machinery. Responsibilities Interface with machine operators to understand and determine the root cause of machine issues and downtime. Ensure the safe and efficient operation of machinery and production equipment by performing scheduled preventive maintenance tasks. Use hand and power tools proficiently and maintain a fully stocked personal toolbox suitable for daily maintenance work. Diagnose defective mechanical components and disassemble equipment for repair using hoists, forklifts, and other lifting or handling equipment. Fabricate and repair machine parts using measuring devices, mills, lathes, drill presses, welders, and related shop equipment. Read and interpret electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic diagrams and drawings to troubleshoot and repair systems. Maintain and repair industrial automated manufacturing equipment, including cylinder rebuilds, bearing replacement, gearbox disassembly, and related mechanical tasks. Troubleshoot AC and DC voltage issues, including both single-phase and three-phase electrical systems. Diagnose and resolve issues with SCADA systems, VFDs, servo motors, drives, and PLCs. Use diagnostic tools such as digital multimeters, digital thermographers, vibration analyzers, and ultrasonic leak detectors to identify and resolve electromechanical problems. Complete accurate computer-based documentation and data entry related to maintenance activities and equipment status. Communicate clearly with supervisors, department managers, and other departments to coordinate maintenance activities and minimize production disruptions. Observe and comply with all OSHA and NFPA regulations and consistently wear appropriate personal protective equipment. Support retrofit projects to upgrade legacy equipment and integrate new processes into existing production lines. Collaborate with other maintenance technicians as part of a team to provide maintenance coverage and support across all shifts and areas of the facility. Manage multiple maintenance tasks and projects simultaneously while maintaining a high standard of safety and quality. Essential Skills Three years of experience working in industrial facilities. Experience maintaining and repairing industrial automated manufacturing equipment, including cylinder rebuilds, bearing replacement, and gearbox disassembly. Ability to read and interpret electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic diagrams and drawings. Familiarity with troubleshooting AC and DC voltage, including single-phase and three-phase electrical systems. Functional knowledge of and ability to troubleshoot SCADA systems, variable frequency drives (VFDs), servo motors, drives, and PLCs. Functional knowledge of and experience troubleshooting electromechanical systems using tools such as digital multimeters, digital thermographers, vibration analyzers, and ultrasonic leak detectors. Proficiency with hand and power tools and the ability to supply and maintain a personal stocked toolbox. Strong mechanical aptitude with experience in hydraulics, pneumatics, and mechanical systems. Ability to perform preventive maintenance and systematic troubleshooting on production equipment. Good computer and data entry skills for documenting maintenance activities. Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with operators, supervisors, and managers. Ability to multitask and manage multiple maintenance projects simultaneously. Commitment to following OSHA and NFPA regulations and consistently using appropriate personal protective equipment. Additional Skills & Qualifications High school diploma preferred. Degree in Mechatronics or Automation preferred. Experience working in industrial environments with automated manufacturing processes. Experience with welding and metal fabrication for repairing and modifying machine components. Comfort working with equipment ranging from older legacy machines to newer, modern systems. Ability to collaborate effectively as part of a multi-craft maintenance team. Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to identifying and addressing equipment issues. Work Environment The facility is very clean and organized, with approximately 33 pieces of equipment grouped by processing function. Equipment ranges from legacy machines from the 1990s to modern systems installed as recently as 2019, offering exposure to both older and newer technologies. The organization actively retrofits legacy equipment to integrate new processes and improve overall performance. Maintenance technicians work as part of a collaborative team to support the entire facility. Multiple shifts are available:
first shift runs from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday; second shift runs from 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., Monday through Friday; and third shift runs from 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m., Sunday through Thursday. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Wheeling, IL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $66500.00 - $89500.00/yr.
