Non-Exempt $20.20 - $22.00;
Full-Time Essential Job Functions:
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned. Perform general maintenance on community assets such as hardscapes, playgrounds, picnic shelters, restrooms, grounds, outdoor furniture, parking lots, irrigation, trails, prairies, wetlands, and woodland areas.
Work tasks may include:
Perform basic skilled labor repairs on plumbing in restroom facilities, electrical services, doors, hand dryers, lighting, structures, and irrigation systems Inspecting playgrounds, repairing playground equipment Removing invasive or undesirable vegetation from natural areas Mixing and applying herbicides Installing and repairing signs, bike racks, drinking fountains, and other park assets Protecting and applying stains, paints, coatings for various surfaces Removing stains, power washing, replacing pavers, maintaining gravel beds Snow and ice management including plowing, salt application and shoveling Cutting limbs, removing fallen trees, pruning, blowing mulch, leaves and debris Maintaining asphalt, pavers, concrete sidewalks, parking lots and driveways Monitoring and removing discarded trash, litter, and waste throughout the parks Periodic cleaning of restroom building, picnic shelters, and other facilities Perform general maintenance and repair tasks necessary to keep machinery, equipment, and tools in operable condition.
Includes work tasks such as:
Inspecting and maintain equipment, engines, hydraulics, tires, checking and replacing fluids, replacing parts, greasing, and cleaning equipment Monitor equipment operations to maintain efficiency and safety Utilize precautionary safety equipment and monitors work environment to ensure safety of employees, volunteers, and the public. Report accurate and timely data associated with completion of work orders. Inspect Park properties and report deficiencies Supervise and train part time and seasonal employees on daily work functions. Enforce Park rules, regulations, and policies. Comply with applicable codes, laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies, and procedures. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required to
Perform Essential Job Functions:
Ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division Ability to utilize a variety of reference and descriptive data and information Ability to operate MS office computer utilities, tablet, and smart phone applications Ability to communicate effectively; includes ability to interact with members of the public to resolve problems Ability to handle routine on call rotations and procedures Ability to analyze, carry out, and modify management plans as required Ability to operate a motor vehicle to conduct work activities Ability to operate or be trained to operate a variety of machinery, equipment and tools associated with park maintenance operations, including a skid steer with various attachments, UTV, tractor, blower, mower, hedge trimmer, chain saw, extension ladder, chemical sprayer, hand tools, power tools, snowplow, and electrical testing equipment Availability to remain on-call for a rotating weekly shift to include occasional evenings and weekends Ability to exert heavy physical effort necessary to perform certain park maintenance tasks, involving some combination of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials weighing up to 90 pounds Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, pollen, odors, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature and noise extremes, machinery, vibrations, electric currents, traffic hazards, toxic agents, dead animals, disease, or pathogenic substances Qualifications Required to
Perform Essential Job Functions:
Required to work weekends and evenings for regularly assigned events and for on-call High school diploma or GED 3+ years related experience involving grounds maintenance and manual labor, building maintenance, construction trades, and/or auto mechanics Or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities for this position Driving is an essential function of this position and individual must possess and maintain a valid Indiana driver's license and be insurable Additional Qualifications Preferred but
Not Required:
Indiana Pesticide applicator certification in any herbicide category Irrigation repair and installation experience Certified Arborist National Recreation and Park Association certification (CPSI, CPRP, etc.) The Carmel/Clay Board of Parks and Recreation is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
