Machine Maintenance Technician Job Description The Machine Maintenance Technician diagnoses and resolves equipment breakdowns on the manufacturing floor while prioritizing safety, minimizing downtime, and optimizing production efficiency. This role focuses primarily on responding to machine calls and breakdowns, with additional responsibility for performing scheduled and predictive maintenance to keep equipment operating at peak performance. Responsibilities Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and electronic issues on manufacturing equipment as breakdowns occur on the production floor. Respond to machine calls and breakdowns, dedicating approximately 85% of working time to resolving unplanned equipment issues. Perform scheduled and predictive maintenance tasks on a wide range of machines and equipment according to established maintenance schedules. Replace or repair defective parts, including belts, bearings, motors, and sensors, to restore equipment to proper operating condition. Identify root causes of equipment failures and implement effective corrective actions to reduce recurrence and improve reliability. Calibrate, align, and adjust machinery to ensure optimal performance, accuracy, and safety. Collaborate closely with team members and leads to analyze and resolve complex technical repair issues. Use electrical troubleshooting skills to work safely with 480-volt, 3-phase motors and related components. Utilize mechanical troubleshooting skills to diagnose and repair hydraulic, pneumatic, PLC, and robotic systems as needed. Perform preventive maintenance activities to reduce downtime and extend the life of equipment and components. Read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and diagrams to guide troubleshooting and repair efforts. Document all maintenance activities, repairs, parts replacements, and adjustments performed on the production floor. Follow all safety procedures and best practices while working on live equipment and in an active manufacturing environment. Communicate equipment status, repair progress, and maintenance needs clearly to supervisors, operators, and fellow technicians. Essential Skills Industrial maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment. Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills for production machinery. Ability to diagnose and repair issues involving hydraulics and pneumatics. Electrical troubleshooting experience with 480-volt, 3-phase motors. Experience with preventive and predictive maintenance on industrial equipment. Ability to read, understand, and apply information from technical manuals and schematics. Proficiency in identifying and resolving mechanical, electrical, and electronic problems on machines. Solid troubleshooting skills across industrial maintenance systems. Ability to collaborate effectively with other technicians and leads to solve complex technical problems. Strong focus on safety and adherence to maintenance procedures and standards. Additional Skills & Qualifications PLC troubleshooting experience, preferably with Mitsubishi or Allen-Bradley systems. Robotic troubleshooting experience, preferably with Motoman or Fanuc robots. Experience working in an automotive or similarly fast-paced manufacturing environment. Strong documentation skills for recording maintenance activities and repairs. Ability to work independently and manage priorities in a high-demand maintenance environment. Why Work Here? Work Environment The role is based in an extremely clean and well-organized automotive manufacturing environment designed to support safe and efficient work. Technicians work with a variety of industrial machinery and equipment, including systems involving electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, PLC, and robotic technologies. Multiple shift options are available, including second shift (2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.) and third shift (10:00 p.m. to 6:30 a.m.), providing opportunities for different schedule preferences. The facility emphasizes orderliness, safety, and reliability, with all tools supplied to support effective maintenance and repair work. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Greenfield, IN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $62400.00 - $83200.00/yr. Health, Dental, Vision, 401k and paid PTO.
