Job Title:
Maintenance Technician Job Description The Maintenance Technician supports the operations maintenance team by installing, maintaining, and repairing automated packaging, distribution equipment, and material handling systems. This role focuses on troubleshooting electrical and mechanical issues, performing preventative and predictive maintenance, and ensuring that conveyor systems, robotics, and related equipment operate safely and efficiently throughout a high-volume facility. Responsibilities Promote a safe working environment at all times by following all established safety procedures and standards. Perform scheduled preventative and predictive maintenance routines on material handling equipment and pneumatic systems, ensuring accurate and complete documentation of all work performed. Troubleshoot and repair electrical and mechanical issues on material handling equipment, including belts, motors, photo-eyes, relays, and related components. Install, maintain, and repair automated packaging and distribution equipment to minimize downtime and support continuous operations. Read and interpret blueprints, electrical schematics, and technical documentation to diagnose and resolve equipment issues. Apply knowledge of electrical and electronic principles and effectively use a multimeter to test, diagnose, and verify system performance. Support robotic operation and maintenance activities, including basic troubleshooting of input and output functions where applicable. Track, organize, and store department inventory, parts, and tools to ensure timely availability of materials for maintenance tasks. Maintain positive and collaborative working relationships with operations and maintenance teams across the facility. Use a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), where applicable, to receive work orders, record maintenance activities, and update equipment history. Participate in projects and improvement initiatives, applying basic project management skills to help plan and execute maintenance-related work. Move and handle equipment and materials up to 49-50 pounds, and stand or walk for shifts lasting up to 12 hours, with or without reasonable accommodation. Travel between departments, floors, and areas of the facility as needed, including extensive walking to facilitate maintenance work. Work in environments with fluctuating temperatures and perform maintenance tasks in various physical positions, including crouching, kneeling, squatting, climbing steps or ladders, and reaching overhead. Essential Skills High school diploma or equivalent. At least 2 years of experience working with automated conveyor systems and controls. At least 2 years of experience repairing material handling equipment. At least 2 years of experience performing predictive and preventative maintenance procedures. At least 1 year of metal and wood fabrication experience. At least 1 year of experience reading blueprints and electrical schematics. At least 1 year of knowledge and practical application of electrical and electronic principles. Ability to use a multimeter safely and effectively for troubleshooting and verification. Hands-on experience in industrial maintenance, including mechanical and electrical troubleshooting. Ability to move up to 49-50 pounds and stand or walk for extended periods, with or without reasonable accommodation. Additional Skills & Qualifications Associate degree or higher from a vocational school or college with a focus in mechanical or electrical fields. 2 or more years of apprenticeship or equivalent experience in mechanical or electrical fields. Experience working with material handling equipment in accordance with Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) guidelines and safety standards. Experience using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to manage work orders and maintenance records. Experience with robotic operation and maintenance in an industrial or distribution environment. Ability to troubleshoot basic input and output functions within automated systems. Project management experience related to maintenance, equipment installation, or process improvements. Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and analytical skills in both mechanical and electrical systems. Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams. Why Work Here? Work Environment This role is based in a large, high-volume operations facility that utilizes automated conveyor systems, material handling equipment, pneumatic systems, and robotic technologies. You will work around moving machinery and industrial equipment, frequently moving between departments and floors and walking approximately 6 to 12 miles per day as part of your normal duties. Shifts can last up to 12 hours and require extended periods of standing and walking, as well as regular crouching, kneeling, squatting, climbing steps or ladders, and reaching overhead to install, repair, or move equipment. The environment may involve fluctuating temperatures. You will regularly use tools and diagnostic equipment such as multimeters, and work at a computer or stand-up desk for 1-2 hours per day to document work and review technical information. Personal protective equipment, including a mask, face shield, and composite-toed boots, is required while performing many tasks. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Plainfield, IN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $32.50 - $32.50/hr.
