Job Title:
Maintenance Technician Job Description The Maintenance Technician maintains and repairs production equipment in a fiberglass molding facility, with a strong focus on mechanical systems and basic electrical troubleshooting. This role performs both corrective and preventive maintenance on pumps, motors, conveyors, and related equipment to keep operations running safely and efficiently on a third-shift schedule. Responsibilities Troubleshoot and repair tanks, pumps, agitators, pneumatic conveyors, and related production equipment from a mechanical standpoint. Perform major repairs such as replacing locked-out pumps, changing out failed pumps immediately, and completing detailed repairs afterward. Ensure pneumatic conveyors operate continuously by unclogging lines, changing filters, and addressing mechanical issues as they arise. Troubleshoot electrical issues involving single-phase and three-phase motors operating at 120-480V. Re-wire motors as needed to restore or improve equipment functionality. Perform preventive maintenance activities, including changing out motors, greasing bearings, replacing belts, and completing other scheduled tasks. Spend approximately 30% of each day performing preventive maintenance to reduce unplanned downtime. Read and interpret prints and blueprints to diagnose issues and complete repairs accurately. Document maintenance activities as required and communicate equipment status and issues to the supervisor and team. Collaborate with the maintenance supervisor and other technicians to prioritize work orders and support production needs. Follow all safety procedures and lockout/tagout practices while working on mechanical and electrical systems. Essential Skills At least 3 years of mechanical maintenance experience working with pumps, hydraulics, and pneumatics. Strong mechanical maintenance skills, including troubleshooting and repairing pumps, conveyors, and related equipment. Hands-on experience with hydraulics and pneumatics in an industrial environment. Ability to troubleshoot and repair mechanical components such as bearings, belts, and drive systems. Ability to troubleshoot single-phase and three-phase motors operating at 120-480V. Experience re-wiring motors and performing basic electrical maintenance on industrial equipment. Ability to perform preventive maintenance on motors, pumps, conveyors, and associated components. Ability to read and interpret prints and blueprints to support troubleshooting and repair work. General industrial maintenance experience in a manufacturing or production setting. Strong troubleshooting and repair skills with a focus on root-cause identification and resolution. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working as a maintenance technician, maintenance mechanic, or in a similar industrial maintenance role. Background in fiberglass, molding, or similar manufacturing environments is beneficial. Comfort working on third shift and overtime as needed to support production demands. Ability to work both independently and as part of a small maintenance team. Strong attention to detail and commitment to completing repairs and PMs safely and correctly. Why Work Here? Work Environment This role is based in a fiberglass molding manufacturing facility that has a noticeable paint odor due to the materials used in production. The position operates on third shift, typically from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., with current technicians often working five 12-hour shifts per week, totaling approximately 55-65 hours. The maintenance team is small, consisting of a supervisor and one technician on first shift, fostering close collaboration and clear communication. Work involves frequent interaction with industrial equipment such as tanks, pumps, agitators, motors, and pneumatic conveyors. The dress code requires jeans, steel-toe footwear, and a long-sleeve shirt to support safety and protection while working on the plant floor. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of South Bend, IN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $27.00 - $27.00/hr.
