Maintenance Technician Excellence By design, LLC South Bend, IN Job Details Full-time $24 - $25 an hour 1 day ago Benefits Paid time off Flexible schedule Qualifications Outdoor work Construction painting Driver's License Commercial construction Caulking Full Job Description Job Summary We are seeking a reliable and skilled Maintenance Technician to support the upkeep, appearance, and functionality of a retail shopping center. This role is hands-on and ideal for someone with carpentry or painting experience and a solid general knowledge of construction and building maintenance. The technician will perform routine maintenance, repairs, and improvements to ensure the property remains safe, clean, and visually appealing for tenants and customers. Key Responsibilities Perform general maintenance and repair work throughout the retail center, including common areas, storefront exteriors, and back-of-house spaces Complete carpentry tasks such as minor framing, drywall repair, door and trim repair, fixture installation, and basic woodworking Perform painting and surface preparation, including patching, sanding, priming, and painting interior and exterior surfaces Address basic construction and repair needs (concrete patching, tile repair, caulking, minor masonry, etc.) Conduct routine inspections to identify maintenance issues and safety concerns Respond to maintenance requests from property management in a timely manner Assist with turnover work between tenants as needed Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a safe and organized manner Follow safety procedures and comply with all property and OSHA guidelines Coordinate with vendors or contractors when specialized repairs are required Qualifications Prior experience in maintenance, construction, or facilities support Strong carpentry or painting skills (one required; both preferred) General working knowledge of construction methods, tools, and materials Ability to perform physical work including lifting, climbing ladders, and standing for extended periods Basic troubleshooting and problem-solving skills Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks Reliable transportation and valid driver's license (if required for the property) Preferred Skills Experience working in retail centers, commercial properties, or multi-tenant facilities Knowledge of basic plumbing, electrical, or HVAC systems (not required but a plus) Attention to detail and pride in quality workmanship Work Environment Indoor and outdoor work in a retail shopping center Exposure to weather conditions, dust, and construction materials Flexible schedule may be required for occasional after-hours or weekend work
