Job Title:
Maintenance Technician Job Description The Maintenance Technician leads troubleshooting and corrective maintenance for plant equipment, serving as the first level of escalation for lower-level technicians. This role diagnoses and repairs electrical and mechanical malfunctions, performs routine preventive and predictive maintenance, and supports reliability initiatives through data-driven performance tracking. The technician mentors junior team members, collaborates closely with plant leadership, and ensures safe, efficient, and compliant operation of machinery and related systems. Responsibilities Lead troubleshooting and corrective maintenance activities for plant machinery, equipment, and field devices, acting as the first point of escalation for lower-level technicians. Inspect, operate, and test machinery or equipment to diagnose electrical and mechanical malfunctions. Dismantle and rebuild machinery, equipment, and field devices to access and remove defective parts, using hoists, cranes, hand tools, and power tools as required. Perform routine preventive and predictive maintenance, including inspecting drives, motors, and belts, checking fluid levels, replacing filters, and completing other scheduled maintenance tasks. Lead the predictive maintenance (PdM) program by performing repairs, verifying findings and repairs completed by lower-level technicians, and tracking pre- and post-repair performance changes. Prepare and provide trend reports on equipment performance changes to site leadership based on PdM data. Use technical documentation such as prints, repair manuals, wiring diagrams, and parts catalogs to support troubleshooting and repair activities. Repair machines, equipment, or structures using tools such as hammers, hoists, saws, drills, wrenches, precision measuring instruments, and electronic testing devices. Maintain and troubleshoot relay logic and control systems, including field devices, contactors, starters, limit switches, proximity sensors, photo eyes, variable frequency drives (VFDs), human-machine interfaces (HMIs), and interlock safety devices. Mentor and train junior technicians and peers by providing clear guidance, positive motivation, and on-the-job coaching to support departmental goals. Conduct and support safety trainings for maintenance personnel to reinforce safe work practices and procedures. Review, prioritize, and complete work orders in a timely manner, performing all necessary maintenance or repairs as specified. Follow Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures at all times and ensure that all maintenance personnel consistently comply with LOTO requirements. Maintain a positive working relationship with all departments and communicate proactively with plant management regarding maintenance issues, equipment status, and potential risks. Complete accurate daily reports detailing maintenance activities, repairs performed, and equipment status during each shift. Participate in root cause analysis events at the local site to identify underlying issues and implement long-term corrective actions. Continue to pursue education and training in multi-craft skills to expand technical capabilities and stay current with evolving technologies. Comply with all applicable federal, state, and company policies, procedures, and regulations. Support and adhere to all safety, food quality, and sanitation initiatives and policies. Coordinate with plant management to establish maintenance schedules for various machines to minimize production downtime. Lead and perform routine maintenance and repairs as needed to keep machines and mechanical equipment operating efficiently and safely. Provide and maintain personal tools required for daily maintenance tasks in alignment with the facility's tool requirements. Essential Skills 3 to 5 years of maintenance experience for Level 2 candidates. 7+ years of maintenance experience for Level 3 candidates. Hands-on experience as a maintenance technician in an industrial or manufacturing environment. Strong electrical troubleshooting skills, including working with three-phase power systems. Mechanical maintenance skills, including disassembly, repair, and reassembly of machinery and equipment. Experience with hydraulics and pneumatics systems, including troubleshooting and repair. Ability to maintain and troubleshoot relay logic and associated control field devices. Experience working with contactors, starters, limit switches, proximity sensors, and photo eyes. Ability to troubleshoot and maintain variable frequency drives (VFDs). Experience working with human-machine interfaces (HMIs) and interlock safety devices. Proficiency in performing preventive maintenance and predictive maintenance on industrial equipment. Ability to read and interpret prints, repair manuals, wiring diagrams, and parts catalogs. Competence using hand tools, power tools, hoists, cranes, precision measuring instruments, and electronic testing devices. Demonstrated ability to lead troubleshooting efforts and serve as an escalation point for junior technicians. Strong communication skills to coordinate effectively with plant management and cross-functional teams. Commitment to following Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures and enforcing safe work practices. Ability to complete detailed work orders and daily maintenance reports accurately and on time. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with HVAC systems and related maintenance and repair activities, especially for senior-level candidates. Experience with PLC troubleshooting for Level 3 candidates. Background in leading or participating in predictive maintenance (PdM) programs and generating performance trend reports. Experience mentoring and training maintenance team members to enhance overall team capability. Participation in root cause analysis events to identify and resolve recurring equipment issues. Ongoing interest in continued education and training in multi-craft maintenance skills. Ability to coordinate maintenance schedules with production leadership to minimize downtime. The position typically follows plant shift schedules and requires being on-site, with active collaboration with plant management and other departments throughout the shift. You are expected to bring and maintain your own tools in line with the facility's tool requirements. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Frontenac, KS.
