Summary This position will assist in packaging medication orders and prescriptions, preparing labels, calculating quantities, and assembling other pharmaceutical therapies.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist in preparing and dispensing medication by filling unit dose cards with prescribed tablets and capsules, and affixing labels for proper identification of patient and medication to unit dose cards, bottles, boxes, etc. Assist in the preparation of compounded medications, including creams, ointments, capsules, and solutions, under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist. Use professional judgement to ensure the Medication Administration Record (MAR) chart produced is accurate, current, and meets the standards established by the pharmacy. Remain mindful of pharmacy inventory by checking pharmaceutical stock to determine inventory level. Remove outdated drugs and respond to questions regarding the availability of medications. Inventory, refill, and repair emergency medical kits for nursing home facilities. Receive and store incoming medications and supplies. Ensure the security of all drugs and chemicals. Enter data into the computer system, recording prescriptions, purchase orders, stock orders, requisitions, and disbursements. Under direction of pharmacist, remove unneeded or outdated drugs from stock and prepare for return or disposal. Perform computer order entry function. Help maintain an orderly, clean environment including cleanliness of pharmacy stock and supplies. Clean equipment and glassware according to prescribed methods. Assist in preparing medication deliveries to facilities. This position has access to PHI and must comply with HIPAA regulations. Comply with company Corporate Compliance Program. Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software. Ability to operate related office equipment, such as computers, 10-key calculator, and copier. Ability to work independently and in a fast-paced environment. Ability to anticipate work needs and interact professionally with customers. Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality. Ability to create a compassionate and respectful environment. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to work 100% on-site, with no remote work options available. May have to work overtime with little or no notice as needed.
Required Physical Abilities:
Standing:
Ability to stand for 8 or more hours a day, often for the majority of the workday.
Manual Dexterity:
Proficiency in using hands and fingers to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls, such as typing on a keyboard.
Visual Acuity:
Good vision to read and interpret data on computer screens and documents.
Communication:
Ability to speak clearly and listen attentively during phone calls or meetings.
Occasional Lifting:
Capability to lift and carry objects, typically up to 50 pounds.
Mobility:
Ability to move around the pharmacy to access files, reach drugs on/off shelves, office equipment, or attend meetings. Ability to bend and stoop.
Posture:
Maintaining proper posture to avoid strain or injury.
Qualifications:
Completion of a structured Pharmacy Technician Training Program approved by the State Board of Pharmacy. Current Pharmacy Technician License issued by Board of Pharmacy and in good standing.
