Vernon Parish:
The overall function of the District Sign Specialist 1 is to perform the duties related to the complete installation and maintenance of highway signs throughout the District on all state and federal routes including urban and rural areas. The incumbent must be self-motivated and be able to perform duties many times without supervision or with minimal supervision and also be able to interpret and react to unforeseen conditions as they may arise. The incumbent will participate in DOTD structured training programs as appropriate and attend all continuing education classes and conferences deemed necessary to facilitate the performance of required tasks. While in official capacity, DOTD employees must comply with applicable Louisiana and Civil Service laws, rules, and regulations, as well as DOTD policies, procedures, manuals, and directives. NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT
Possession of a current Class D Chauffer's License. The official job specifications for this role, as defined by the State Civil Service, can be found here .
Job Duties:
Perform sign installation, replacement, and maintenance on all State Highways in accordance with the manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices. This includes highway signing, construction and road closure signing, barricades, warning and other permanent and temporary signing. Have knowledge of Louisiana vehicular laws listed in Revised Statue 32. Required to use measuring devices (Tapes, distance measuring instrument, distance-measuring wheels), cameras, copy devices, etc.
Position-Specific Details:
  • Current Class "D" Chauffer's License before appointment.
  • Pass random drug testing
  • Operate a forklift, gasoline post driver/auger, and various hand tools
  • Lift 75 lbs. repeatedly
  • Have knowledge of the use of UHF radio and proper radio etiquette
  • Utilize cell phones, GPS devices, computer and email to facilitate communication.
