Facilities Technician Job Description This temporary Facilities Technician position supports a retail mall location by performing a wide range of handyman and basic maintenance tasks while a permanent team member recovers from an injury. The role focuses on general facilities upkeep and minor repairs, without involvement in HVAC, boiler, chiller, or other large mechanical system maintenance. Responsibilities Perform general handyman tasks to support day-to-day facilities operations within a mall environment. Complete painting projects, including surface preparation, patch work, and finish painting on walls, doors, and other surfaces. Carry out drywall and sheetrock work, including installation, repair, and patching of damaged areas. Perform basic carpentry tasks such as minor framing, trim work, and repairs to fixtures and structures. Repair or replace tiles as needed to maintain safe and attractive flooring and wall surfaces. Change and rekey door locks and related hardware to maintain proper access control and security. Diagnose lighting issues and replace or change ballasts as needed to ensure proper illumination. Install 20-amp wall outlets safely and in accordance with basic electrical standards and guidelines. Change oil and filters on small engines and equipment as part of routine preventive maintenance. Perform basic cleaning and general upkeep tasks to keep facilities clean, orderly, and presentable. Use basic hand tools and equipment safely and effectively for a variety of maintenance tasks. Assist with minor electrical, plumbing, and mechanical repairs within the scope of basic maintenance. Support preventive maintenance efforts by inspecting facilities and addressing minor issues before they escalate. Lift, carry, and move materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds as required for daily tasks. Collaborate with other facilities staff and follow instructions to complete assigned work efficiently and safely. Essential Skills Hands-on experience in facilities maintenance or general handyman work. Proficiency in painting, including preparation, patch work, and finish painting. Experience with drywall and sheetrock installation, repair, and patching. Basic carpentry skills, including minor repairs and light construction tasks. Ability to perform tile repair and replacement for floors or walls. Experience changing and rekeying door locks and related hardware. Ability to diagnose and change ballasts for lighting systems. Capability to install 20-amp wall outlets using proper tools and techniques. Experience changing oil and filters on small engines and equipment. Competence with basic hand tools and power tools used in maintenance work. Fundamental knowledge of electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and mechanical systems sufficient for basic maintenance tasks. Experience performing preventive maintenance in a facilities or maintenance setting. Ability to carry and move up to 50 pounds safely and repeatedly during the workday. Strong attention to safety procedures and proper tool use. Additional Skills & Qualifications Certification in HVAC, plumbing, or electrical trades is a plus. Previous experience working in a retail, commercial, or mall environment is beneficial. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and manage multiple tasks. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot minor maintenance issues. Good communication skills to coordinate with supervisors and other team members. Work Environment This role is based in a mall environment, working primarily indoors with occasional tasks that may require moving between different areas of the facility. The position follows a first-shift schedule, typically from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. You will use a variety of basic hand tools and maintenance equipment to perform tasks such as painting, drywall repair, carpentry, tile work, light electrical work, and small engine maintenance. The work involves standing, walking, bending, and lifting materials or equipment up to 50 pounds. The environment is active and customer-facing, requiring a neat, practical appearance and attire appropriate for maintenance and repair work. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Auburn, MA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $26.00/hr.
