Summary About the Position:
As a Maintenance Worker you will be responsible for the operation, repair, and maintenance of grounds, facilities, and equipment associated with recreation sites, wildlife habitat lands, and water control structures. Responsibilities Ensure lands, facilities, utilities, support infrastructure, and grounds meet mission requirements. Independently diagnose, plan, and complete work performed on flood control machinery, equipment, and systems. Perform required maintenance, repairs, lubrication and adjustments to flood control equipment. Install and/or makes plumbing maintenance repairs to toilets, sinks, drinking fountains, hydrants, valves, faucets, waterlines, water heaters, irrigation controllers, sprinkler heads, sewer lines, fixtures, pumps, etc. Make electrical repairs by removing, replacing, splicing (including waterproof splicing), soldering, and insulating defective wiring, controls, and equipment. Perform a wide range of welds from simple to precision welding utilizing electric and gas welding equipment to fabricate and/or repair equipment for the section. Regularly operate a variety of heavy engineering/construction equipment. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Who May Apply:

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Maintenance Mechanic ~ without more than normal supervision. Ability to perform common maintenance mechanic tasks such as painting, carpentry, repairing irrigation systems, plumbing repairs, and welding. Ability to operate all associated tools and equipment related to the sub journeyman level skills. Ability to operate and maintain forklifts, backhoes, and tractor-trailers. Ability to perform daily operation checks of this equipment - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Physical Efforts Makes repairs and installations from ladders, scaffolding and platforms. Works in hard to reach places. Required to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts up to 40 pounds. Heavy physical effort is used when operating equipment in constantly reaching, bending, turning, and moving hands, arms, feet, and legs to handle different sets of controls to operate the equipment and attachments. Considerable strain is caused by the constant vibrations of the equipment and the jerking and jolting from operating over rough surfaces. Because of the location of some of the controls and attachments, the operator is frequently required to work in awkward or strained positions. Working Conditions Maintenance work is done inside and outside and is dirty, dusty, and greasy. Work is performed in bad weather and in noisy areas. The worker is exposed to possibility of broken bones, electrical shock, burns, cuts, and bruises. Equipment is operated in all types of weather, often in an open driver's seat or platform, on hills, slopes, grades, steep, unstable or rocky grounds, rolling surfaces, and forests. The incumbent is exposed to injury due to the possibility of the equipment overturning. Is subject to noise, vibration, dust, dirt, and fumes from the motor and exhaust.
