Facilities Technician Maryland Zoo is an EEO Employer -

The FacilitiesTechnician ensures that the Zoo facilities, grounds and equipment are safe and functional.

This position is responsible for performing routine and specialized maintenancetasks to support the Zoo's operations which will include mechanical, electrical, heating, ventilating, and air conditioning aswell as other tasks such as plumbing, doors and locks, door systems, roofsystems, and structural components. Additionally, the Facilities Technicianwill support the Zoo's mission to save wildlife and protect wild places andcontribute to its environmental, social, governance sustainability,conservation, education, and DEAI (Diversity, Equity, Accessibility, and Inclusion)goals.
EssentialFunctionsPrimary Functions:
  • Performs generalmaintenance tasks, including lighting, drywall repair, painting, carpentry, andfurniture movement.
  • Conductscheduled inspections and servicing of equipment, and utilities to prevent breakdownsand ensure efficiency.
  • Respondpromptly to calls throughout the facility and perform necessary repairs.
  • Changefilters, clean drains and gutters, and ensure proper functioning of systemssupporting building operations.
  • Maintaintools, equipment and supplies in an orderly and functional manner.
  • Install andrepair signage as needed ensuring proper placement.
  • Perform alltasks in compliance with company policy and safety guidelines.
  • Perform othertasks and projects as assigned.
Communication:
  • Publish a daily report of worked performed and anycurrent problems/issues/challenges.
Minimum Qualifications
Education:
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • 5+ years of experience working in building operations or maintenance.
Experience/Training:
  • Previous automotive experience, including maintaining and/or repairing items such as golf carts, small engines, or trucks is a plus.
  • Valid driver's license a must.
  • CDL driver's license is a plus.
  • Experience maintaining and repairing a variety of HVAC systems is a plus.

  • Ability to work with a wide variety of individuals from ethnic, cultural and economic backgrounds
Equipment:
  • Must be able to operate a variety of machines, power tools, hand tools, and equipment including computer, telephone, two-way radio, and golf cart, etc.
Working Conditions:
  • Must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 25 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Physical demands are in excess of those for sedentary work; must be able to remain on feet for periods of time, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, push, pull, climb, balance;
  • Must be able to stand and remain active for an eight-hour shift;
  • Must be able to walk large areas of the Zoo as needed;
  • Must be able to work in an outdoor weather environment in all seasons and weather, including heat/humidity, cold temperatures, snow and ice, and/or wet conditions;
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule to include weekends, holidays, special events, an to assist with emergencies as needed;
  • Exposure to zoonotic diseases and risk of animal attack;
  • Exposure to potential environmental hazards such as poison oak/ivy, uneven terrain, insect bites/stings, and Hepatitis B depending on the position.
