Job Description

Build More Than Units — Build a Community The Grayling Housing Commission is looking for a reliable, skilled, and driven Maintenance Technician who takes pride in their work and understands that what they do directly impacts the lives of the families we serve. This is not just a maintenance job — this is a role for someone who cares about people, shows up every day, and solves problems. If you're dependable, hands-on, and take ownership of your work, we want you on our team. What You'll Do Perform routine maintenance and repairs in occupied and vacant units Complete work orders efficiently, correctly, and with professionalism Turn units quickly and thoroughly for new residents Handle repairs including: Plumbing Electrical Drywall Painting Carpentry Basic HVAC troubleshooting Maintain grounds and exterior areas (including snow removal & landscaping) Assist with HUD/NSPIRE/HQS-related inspection items Respond to maintenance issues with urgency and accountability Keep tools, inventory, and records organized What We're Looking For (Non-Negotiables) We're looking for someone who: Shows up on time — every time Has strong attendance and reliability Takes pride in their work and finished product Is a problem-solver, not a placeholder Works independently without needing constant direction Has a strong work ethic and sense of ownership Treats residents with respect and professionalism Required Skills & Experience Experience in apartment or building maintenance Strong knowledge of: Plumbing Electrical Drywall Painting & unit turns Ability to perform physical work (lifting, bending, etc.) Valid Michigan Driver's License & reliable transportation Ability to pass a background check Bonus Points (Not Required, But Valued) HVAC certification Experience in public or affordable housing Knowledge of HUD standards (HQS/NSPIRE) Why Work With Us Stable, mission-driven work environment Paid time off & holidays Retirement benefits (MERS) Health insurance (if applicable) Opportunities for training and growth Who We Are The Grayling Housing Commission provides safe, affordable housing to families in our community.
