Job Description

Summary:
Performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled maintenance and repair tasks involving buildings, facilities and grounds. This could include plumbing, electrical, carpentry and HVAC work as well as other related maintenance and repairs as required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Work is performed under the general supervision of administration and the Facilities Supervisor. An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following (does not include all tasks employee may be expected to perform): Maintenance Person II will perform semi-skilled maintenance and repair tasks such as: 1. Install new, repair, maintain and/or replace: Plumbing fixtures including toilets, sinks, faucets, drinking faucets, etc. Electrical fixtures including switches, sockets, light fixtures, wiring and emergency lighting systems Routine maintenance and repair of heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems Broken windows, screens and shades Doors, door hardware and locksets Furniture, desks, cabinetry, bookshelves and countertops Ceilings, including ceiling tiles and grids Flooring, including floor tiles and carpet squares Other worn out or defective items 2. Perform various general carpentry activities. 3. Operate a power saw, power mower, drill and other power tools and equipment as necessary to complete the required work. 4. Operate a truck, fork lift, and other vehicles. 5. Repair and maintain mechanical equipment as required. 6. Perform preventive maintenance tasks Lubricate machinery & equipment Change filters Inspect facilities, machinery and equipment to identify the need for repairs or updates 7. Assist with snow removal 8. Routine landscaping and grounds maintenance, including storm clean-up and trimming 9. Maintain current HazMat certification. 10. Conduct off-hours building checks 11. Perform other general maintenance work and repairs as required. 12. Regular and predictable in-person attendance is required for this position. Maintenance Person II will also perform more skilled maintenance or renovation tasks in the individual's particular field(s) of expertise, which may require them to work alone or as a project lead.
Examples include:
1. Troubleshooting and more complex repair work on HVAC systems and boilers 2. Design and build cabinetry 3. Troubleshoot and repair small engines, snow plows and occasionally departmental motor vehicle issues 4. Troubleshoot and perform more complex electrical repairs and installations, such as: Install new electrical systems related to renovation work Change breakers in panels safely Add circuits to busbars in order to wire machinery 5. Could be assigned to oversee all maintenance work for a campus Education and/or
Experience:
Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent education and experience, including or supplemented by courses in building maintenance work appropriate for the specific position. At least two years of successful experience in performing a variety of related repair activities, including the repair and maintenance of equipment, buildings and grounds required. Must be able to show achievement of a high level of proficiency to do at least two of the following upon hire: (1) trouble shoot boiler systems, (2) trouble shoot HVAC equipment, (3) trouble shoot electrical issues and change breakers in panels safely, (4) add circuits to busbars, (5) trouble shoot and repair small engine equipment and/or vehicles, (6) trouble shoot and install plumbing fixtures, (7) change and repair specialized flush valves, (8) design and build cabinetry A description of relevant work experience must be included on or with the application. Candidates with HVAC experience may be given preference.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Valid Michigan driver's license with a good driving record is required at all levels.
Other Skills And Abilities:
Reasonable knowledge of the tools, materials and equipment used in the repair and maintenance of mechanical equipment, buildings and grounds. Considerable knowledge of the operation and maintenance requirements of furnaces, ventilating systems, and refrigeration equipment. Ability to perform a variety of maintenance tasks involving carpentry, electrical, plumbing and other repair activities. Mechanical aptitude. Skill in the operation of power equipment tools. Ability to manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously, prioritize work, manage time well and meet deadlines Employee will be helpful, respectful and approachable. Ability to establish and maintain collaborative, effective working relationships in a team environment. Ability to work effectively with other district employees and the public. Demonstrates commitment to diversity and inclusion in the employment and education environments. Employee must be an active learner who can demonstrate growth to meet changing job needs, and who is receptive to job-related feedback. Able to perform duties with awareness of all district, state and federal requirements. Demonstrated good judgment, maturity, reliability, responsibility, confidentiality and professionalism.
Employment Date, Salary, and Fringe Benefits:
Anticipated employment date is as soon as possible. This is a 52-week position. Placement on the ESPA Salary Schedule depends upon qualifications and experience; new employee hourly pay range is $23.06-$25.98 hourly.
